You will be hard-pressed to find a more unified community in many other, much more mainstream titles than you will in Helldivers 2.

This game is fantastic, and has cultivated a community so unified towards common goals that they stood up to SONY and actually won, reversing an otherwise horrible decision to enforce mandatory PSN account creation in order to play the game.

If you like killing horde's of bugs, robots, and whatever other disgusting abominations that may threaten Democracy, and Super Earth, then make the most important decision of your life: Be free. Become a Helldiver.

Coming with a myriad of weapons and stratagems to help you destroy the enemies of Super Earth, there are no shortage of playstyles available to aid you and your fellow man in dispensing managed Democracy. Do you like grenades? There are lots to choose from. Orbital death lasers? Watch 'em burn. All on a vast array of unique planets with various hazards and obstacles to overcome.

You'll find it difficult to not play this game in character, it is TERRIBLY fun to 'play' as a Helldiver, and you'll often find yourself saluting the Super Earth flag and relishing in the destruction of those who would see your home destroyed.

Worried about microtransactions? Worry not. Super Earth is generous beyond words to her protectors, and you'll earn plenty of Super Credits just by simply playing the game and exploring, finding hidden caches filled to the brim with medals and useful equipment, as well as those precious Super Credits.

Also, you'll be making progress even if you choose to take a short, government-mandated break, as once you return, you'll accumulate medals from the several Major Orders your fellow Helldivers have completed in your absence, allowing you to arm yourself with new weapons, armor, and stratagems to ease yourself back into the fray.

Get this game. Do your part. Become a Helldiver.

Early Access Review
There's one thing I never want to discover in the ocean, and it's called a crab. The alleged love child between a spider and a rock, a crab is a regular fish except it has 1,000 legs and is made of solid steel.

Thankfully I found this game to show just how deadly these creatures really are, and it further emphasizes my fear of the beach, and the invincible crustaceans that dwell there, ready to blast me in the face with a shotgun before dancing to the critically acclaimed "Crab Rave".

Don't give the negative reviews the time of day. They are simply people whining and moaning about "♥♥♥♥♥♥" pc controls (which are completely able to be customized) along with apparent "server issues" which have been fixed in the recent patch. Since the patch, I have not had a single disconnect and I play this game quite a lot!

In regards to the people with issues on PC controls. I have used Xbox, PS3 / 4, and normal PC controls for this game. They are all extremely fluid and, if I even had any issues with certain PC controls, I was easily able to fix them by changing the keybinds. Yeah, you can actually do that, believe it or not.

Onto the gameplay: It's fantastic. As a long time fan of the series, I have to vouch for this game. I was initially worried about the apparent PC graphics requirements (blown out of proportion imo) along with the apparent "hand-holding" that appeared on the surface. I'm extremely happy to admit that I was wrong, the gameplay is absolutely amazing and extemely fluid, something that I warmly welcome in contrast to the 3ds control scheme. Monsters, while not a TON of them, are still fun to fight and rewarding when you defeat them.

When it comes to depth, it is still there thankfully. You can create all kinds of builds with all of the different weapons / armor you can craft. You could be a Longsword user who relies on empowering their dodge attack, a bow user focused on using an incredibly powerful, Hanzo-ult-esque Dragonpiercer, or even a guy with a Sword and Shield, using the power of Mushrooms and his vast array of potions to buff your allies. There is TONS of variety, and there are ways to play every weapon for every playstyle.

The game visually, is stunning. Just make sure to turn off that annoying fog setting for a sizeable FPS boost, along with a much crisper, cleaner picture. If you want a nature-walk with the possibility of running into a fire-breathing, popcorn-nose Tyrannosaurus Rex, this is your game.

If you're worried about not being able to adapt to the depth of the game, or if it is too complex, do not worry. While the game is helpful in explaining a lot of what the game's inner workings are, there are plenty of other sources online that will explain the more finer details of the game, such as Arrekz Gaming on YouTube. Sources like these will help you figure out what sort of playstyle you want to go for, and will help explain some more subtle mechanics like Elderseal or the Decorations system.

Overall: I am very happy with the outcome of this port. While I was initially annoyed by the server issues at launch, I knew that they would inevitably be fixed. Now that they are, I'm more than happy to suggest this game to any and all gamers looking for a fun game with plenty of boss fights and outstanding visuals to go with it. If you're not a fan of grindy games, then this might not be the game for you, though I would sincerely give it a try, as it is even fun beyond the grinding aspect. Ignore the negative reviews, most of them are whiny and complaining about the now-non-existent server issues or "Crappy" keyboard controls that are actually fully customizable.
