TLDR: Best played solo, its easily top 3 games ever made in the history of mankind. as a coop game with 3 friends not at all on the same tier but solid game.


After having played the game through in tactician difficulty now i can say that it is an incredibly well balanced and super fun experience to play this game. The story, dialogues, combat and all the variations of them caused me to really feel immersed in my character and my companions. The character growth that you can clearly see and the different routes that can go based on how you play the game is rewarding.

When you play coop with friends you lose a lot of the character developement and it can make the world feel a little flat. but overall a solid experience still.

Was ship of fools a good game?

I first tried the game out during next-fest when the demo was available and i liked the concept. Now having played the game i find the concept to be very well executed and its a blast to play with friends and it has the feeling of having replayability. this is sadly where it falls short.

On my first run with a friend we obviously didn't beat the final boss and it felt like it had a serious difficulty to it and we were both super excited, finally a difficult game. On our second run we finished the run and were disappointed. The expectation was for there to be more areas to play with a steeper difficulty curve. what really happened was that we got strong on the first map and just auto won because the difficulty doesn't really increase at all. massive snooze. knowing that the content is lacking on this part, not to mention the super wonky balancing i wouldn't recommend this game for players looking for a traditional roguelite with difficulty. However, if you are looking for a party game to play with your only friend then its a great buy for an hour or two of fun every now and then.

TLDR:
Make the game 4 player coop and ill consider making it a positive review, this should be early access not full release.

I am slightly biased as I grew up playing the original games. However, I don't see how my opinion about this game would change if I hadn't because this game is insanely good. Story missions feel full of content, exploration feels good and rewarding. Combat has a lot of functions, half which you don't need to use but if you do, you get rewarded for it which makes this game fun and engaging for people no matter the age.

Highly recommended, I'd give it a 9/10 mostly because it doesn't have online coop and steam remote-play is ass

Really great game for people with no hopes and dreams. It let me live through 9/11 all over again.
