About time that Sekiro DLC came out.

After the last patch the game is a lot less prone to stalemates, I gave it a go again and didn't have any fights go on for ages. The devs clearly care enough to listen to their players, and that's admirable. I would now definitely recommend this game.

Alright, per the recommendation those below I finished the game and have come to the conclusion that the store page is deliberately misleading and this game is a bait and switch. Yes, the 3d graphics and escape room puzzles come back after the horrid 2d pixel art segment, however the original card mechanics and roguelike elements are still absent, which is quite disappointing. The majority of the game is very different than what the demo and store page would imply. So no, finishing the game did not improve my opinion of it, the first part is still by far the strongest, and the remaining parts of the game are a complete slog.

Original review below, for completion's sake: This game is a bait and switch. Every picture and video you see in the store page is from about the first third of the game, after which the graphical style, gameplay, and tone shifts dramatically. The escape room puzzles are nowhere to be seen from that point, and the game it turns into is less interesting in every way. The developers should be ashamed.

I've become jaded and joyless, but this game brought some life back to me for a brief time. My only regret is that I can't play it the first time again.
