My personal tips
1.Restrict oneself to only one mission once in a while until you have explored all the animals,locations,horses,bounty hunters,quests, gang hideouts challenges and crafting items.

i've travelled in the wilderness so much that i know where i am at.

This game is a masterpiece. and i've just statted chapter 4 with still half of the non story activities remaining...
