This is a love letter.
A love letter to a simpler time, when street racing was much easier to get away with. A love letter to some of our favourite racing games from back in the day (NFS UG, Wangan, Gran Turismo, even Tokyo Xtreme Racer).

I really like this. I think it needs a little bit of polish but for a demo/prologue of what I assume will eventually become a full game, it shows a lot of promise. There's so many little details that make it feel like a game from the mid-2000s (like when you skip the race intro cutscene, the reverb/echo as the sound fades out). The soundtrack is incredible (this is obviously personal opinion but I love it).

I think maybe the dev got a bit carried away with some of the post FX, it can be difficult to read some of the text, but it's not in the actual gameplay so I'm not overly bothered by it.

I'll definetely be watching this, I'm curious to see more of it.

I don't get the negative reviews. It feels the same as the closed betas and open beta (other than balancing). OCE here and we have no OCE servers yet it's still one of the most enjoyable shooters I've played in a long time.

If you're OCE, you might struggle with the server-sided movement a bit, but once you get used to it and accept it, it's incredibly fun. I'm still able to top the leaderboard most games even with the janky high ping movement.

I can only hope they bring OCE servers though.

EDIT: Literally 1 hour after I wrote this, OCE servers were added.

The first thing I did was ask Janus if his first name was Hugh. He immediately knew I was making a 'huge anus' joke and made me feel like a complete butthead for being rude to someone I hadn't met.

10/10
(I played during Steam Next Fest so hours are probably wrong)

Truly, you do not need a degree in Dwarf Fortress to play anymore!

If you're craving Escape from Tarkov but don't want to go to bed crying, this is the perfect game for you. A more casual looter-shooter experience.

Played on Index Controller with Vive (2016) HMD.

It's basically Boneworks on steroids. It's great and I highly recommend it. I saw a few reviews about problems with the Index controllers or control methods but I never ran into any issues with gripping or anything of the sorts. I DID run into the eternal slow down time thingo. But hitting the button again once or twice fixes it... So maybe it's a different issue others are experiencing?

Also, FWIW, the story isn't hidden behind mini-games like some reviews suggest. I did 2 of the mini-games and I'm not even sure I had to do either of them to progress. The hub world might be a little bit confusing though but take the time to explore the whole area before jumping in and you'll realise it's not as bad as others have made it out to be.

The only big problem I ran into was right at the start where I was goofing around and manged to become a free camera instead of a person. Required a level restart but I wasn't far from the start so a bit of a non-issue for me personally.

I think there's a few questionable game design choices though. For instance, you use the right stick to control the go-karts throttle, but the right stick also looks left and right when you're in the go-kart, resulting in randomly moving the camera slightly left or right when trying to apply the throttle. Even with stick turning turned OFF this still occurred. Bit of an oversight in my opinion. There also doesn't seem to be an option to disable the 'anti-crouching' (basically the game keeps you at full height when you crouch down IRL so that you can play any position from standing to seated). This makes it annoying to take cover or grab something off of the ground because I bend down to do whatever and suddenly I'm still at standing height (note it doesn't seem to happen all the time, I don't know what triggers it exactly). You can also just use the right stick to control your crouch height, but I prefer not using controls for crouching and turning.

But I still recommend it, it's more Boneworks. And I can't say no to that. The combat is fun (of course you have to try and pull off the coolest moves possible every time though) and it's fun to explore and climb around on everything.

Loving it so far. Definitely need some good specs but my 2080ti is netting me 40-60FPS on RTX ultra @ 3440x1440, higher than I anticipated. Not great, but enough for now. Personally, I've only encountered small visual bugs (floating wheels on a car for 1 second, few ragdoll glitches) but nothing game breaking and no crashes yet. It does need some further optimisation and bug fixes though, that's for sure.

Oh, and do something about the damn dodge mechanic. It doesn't work on keyboard. I keep wanting to move small increments but instead end up hurling myself across the room into enemies. Maybe it's just me, but there really needs to be an option to change how it works in my opinion. (OMG THEY CHANGED THIS! The patch was huge but this was the stand out item for me in Patch 1.2!)

Regardless, I keep end up walking around Night City and just enjoying the sights. The city looks incredible and gives off a great atmosphere.
