While I joined half-expecting a mess, this continues to surprise me in more ways the more I play.

You have four character slots, ideally for making one character of each race (Chaos Marines, Eldar, Orks, and of course SPEEHS MEHREENS). After picking a race, you get to choose a sub-faction (Space wolves, Blood ravens, etc.) which determines what your armour looks like, (There is no painting in this, but trust me, it's hard enough telling a Chaos from a Speehs as it is).

After that, there are advancement trees unique to each race, all of which can eventually be filled (Unlike games that would require you to focus on a certain playstyle, this lets you do everything), and there are crates that can be bought with Requesition points (Currency won after every battle), these crates have a set amount of items in it, so while you'll never get dupes, you'll also eventually run out of crates, making it a nice thing to look forward to after a battle (There are plenty of things to be earned with even the 500r crates, so be sure to buy them all!)

The character customization comes in the form of picking your armour pieces (Left/right shoulder, arms, torso, head, etc.), and while they're only purchasable with RTC (real money currency) you are guarenteed to win RTC at the end of a campaign as long as you win 10 matches before that campaign is over (You get more if your race wins, and you also get Req. as well), so you dont have to pay to be able to afford that cool piece of armour you were looking at.

As for gameplay: It's not perfect, and while the cover system is unique and for the most part good, there are still some points where it'll hang, or it'll bug out and not let you lean out to shoot, or you'll go to step off it but you'll be stuck on the wall and you get shot. Aside from the little things like that however, this game managed to get a lot of the little details right. You will probably feel paper-thin if you find yourself out of cover, but as time goes on you'll get stronger both in the sense that your advancements will give you more passives like armour and health, but you'll also gain map awareness, and you'll figure out where someone is more likely to flank you from a particular position. Each race feels entirely unique, with their own forms of teamwork and utility.

The gamemodes are always a form of Capture points, whether it's Attack & Defend where you have a set number of lives per point (Run out of lives on A? Now you have to start spawning on B and decide whether it's worth it to risk running back to A before they cap it), or more of a conquest mode where it's still A/D, but everyone has unlimited lives and you can retake lost points, creating a fairly balanced push and pull among the points, with scattered gunfights in between.

Teamwork is key here, and thats a big factor for me in a game. My "Time played" achievement only says I've played for 9 hours, but I've already lost count of how many times I've saved my friends life because he was defending the point and I was watching his back, and as soon as I called out, we were both able to dispatch the flanker with ease.

I feel like I'm really talking this game up, but to put in perspective how much I already love this game, it's successfully winning my time over Team Fortress 2, and that is an achievement that no game so far has ever come CLOSE to doing.

I tried covering as much as I could think of in my time here, but I may update it in the future, perhaps after I reach rank 5 on a character and I have more thoughts on what I do and don't like about it.

As it stands, this is a solid 9/10 because of the little bugs here and there, it seems that no game is perfect, but this is making a really good attempt at getting there.

If you feel like this influenced you to get this game, be sure to use this code when you sign-up so that you can get a free 4,000RTC! (Thats about enough to buy a helmet or something, so it helps)

We've had it all in the past year, from Bethesda trying to weasel in paid mods, to Overkill stuffing microtransactions in after promising that they wouldn't-

To a game that has been free for years, with no warning, and reset everything?! What are the upsides from this other than "You can get achevements instantly now"?

This was the one free game I knew I could rely on to be engaging right off the hop and always worth getting a few friends into, and now all I have is TF2 (The milked out cashcow that is it's current update), and facebook games.

I'm not going to be telling anyone about this game anymore, and I hope it either goes back to f2p, or it drops into deepsteam where it should never be seen or bought again.

Disgraceful.

Edit, this isn't a tf2/tes/pd2 review, you know what I meant.
