I went from not understanding why I keep losing to feeling like a savant in 30 minutes.

This is a rage platformer all right. Unfortunately, it's pretty shoddy, and, for whatever reason, somewhat physics-based. The physics add an element of unpredictability (which is not something you want in a game like this), the controls are janky (there's no autojump or pressing the jump button just before touching the surface - this comes up soon after the beginning, as you have to jump off a rotating platform, and the aforementioned physics mandate perfect precision). The design is lackluster, and you can't even remap the controls. There is 20 seconds worth of music, and so far I only heard one sound, only played during a specific death. The achievements are apparently bugged as well. It's basically your kid's first Unity game, sold at AAA price. If you're looking for a rage platformer, there are better options out there, many of them free. Maybe grab it on a sale if you're a fan of the genre.

tl;dr: Remember that Flash maze with a jumpscare? It's that, but good.

It's a drag-your-mouse-to-avoid-stuff kind of game, which also has bullet hell boss fights. It's hard enough to be challenging, but not unwinnable. The style somehow impeccably pulls off being a weird mix of vaporwave memes, glitch art and being creepy as balls. Probably the most unique-looking game I played in a while, picked it up on a sale and it was worth it.

Okay, yes, it has really good design and atmosphere where it counts.

What no one seems to mention is just how obnoxiously long and tedious the game is, even more so if you're the type to examine everything. It took me 30 hours to get to the actual meat of the plot, 25 of which are ermegerd wacky headspace hijinks that are pointless at best and obnoxious at worst. Non-boss fights are unnecessary, combat does not have much depth and soon starts to be annoying, the gameplay is as deep as "walk around and tap 'z' literally all the time", and constant screen transitions take a lot longer than they need to. All that adds up, and eventually you click through NPC lines (most of which are equally pointless) screaming at the game to just get on with it already. I've completed the game, found out there is another route to take with more stuff to discover, and I just can't bring myself to do it.

So yeah, it has merit, but I would not recommend actually playing it. And if you do get it, you better be more patient than I am.

I am not sure if this game is a deeply self-aware social commentary, a high-effort ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or a 14-year-old's fever dream, but whatever it's trying to do, it's doing _really_ well. The combat is janky and I still haven't figured it out, but the game oozes aesthetic and I can't wait to see more of it.

Completed the game within 2 hours. Haven't felt a rush this intense since Hotline Miami. Dashing through the corridors while landing those juicy headshots in a blur of blood and pixels in a truly magical experience.

A short and charming game. Can be completed in one sitting in its entirety. Free. Kicker music and sound design. Demon waifus. I even got a pancake recipe out of the deal.

What more could you possibly ask for?

Well, it costs a buck. If you think it's worth a shot, go ahead, you're not losing much.

The platforming part is more or less ok, maybe a bit above casual difficulty level. You can finish it in about an hour. That said, I played on a PC, and the game is primarily marketed for mobile platforms. It's probably a nightmare on a touchscreen.

The narrative is subpar. It tries to do the meta thing, and, in my personal opinion, fails miserably. It's also a part of a larger story, but if you want to see the whole picture, the earlier games are even worse. At least there's progress - if you like this at least somewhat, you might want to keep an eye on the dev's later games.

Pros:
  • Good blend of genres
  • Plays with the medium well
  • Actually is creepy
  • Good technical execution

Cons:
  • Did not like the resolution. Of all the ways to connect the episodes, they went with the most cliche one.
  • It is not always obvious how to proceed, more due to interface quirks than lack of logic
  • Voice acting is dissonant at times
  • Pretty short - can be completed in one evening without any prior knowledge

Overall, worth a try. And turn off the lights (except for the third episode).

It's basically Limbo where you get to fight things.
