MK1 has really high quality 3D models but awkward clunky animations and an outdated obsession with gore that kills the presentation. The story cinematics are pretty good despite this.

In terms of gameplay, my issue is almost every aspect of the gameplay is done better by Idol Showdown a free to play game based on hololive vtubers with zero microtransactions; The assists are less clunky, the 'simple' control method is far better than MK's half commitment to motion inputs, and the combos are less 'scripted'

all in all like 5/10 game.

Its hard to recommend DQXI when its such an inconsistent game.
The visuals are outstanding, except for the 40% of the game that you're navigating the world (especially by boat).

The music was produced with by a complete symphony but there's only a few tracks that repeat endlessly (and as far as I can tell the setting to the music from 7 does not work).

The game has awesome cut scenes with full voice acting except for the side quests which are usually boring personality devoid fetch quests.

You can play the entire game in 2D or in 3D but you can't quick switch between them. It creates a new save at a recent story point. So, if you wanted to traverse the world in 2D and play cutscenes in 3D you cannot do that.

Yakuza 7 is a better Dragon Quest game that released a month earlier.

Developers lack the confidence to respect your time and put quality before quantity. I cannot recommend this game more. 10/10.

Block, Spot Dodge, Dodge roll, 1 button crossup protection, invincible DP, 22 frame throw break window, EX invincible DP, and your dumbass still gets caught mashing.

Incredible cut scenes, dialogue, visuals, and story. The gameplay is just ok. Seemingly most players won't mind this but there are only 12 side quests in the game and no new characters outside of the main cast. I thought the game was good and polished but had a feeling of unfinished. With extensive exploration I finished in 20 hours but have maybe 5 hours of relatively unrewarding end-game content to chase.

one of the best presented games i've played but every other aspect of the game is outstandingly mediocre. Game is ~40 - 50 hours. the developers think that the player would want to play for 100 hours but the game should really have been 20 - 30. Systems are complex but come across more grindy than compelling or empowering.

but the music and visuals are still really pretty

Came to curb my crave for ninja games during my Naruto phase, stayed for some sick ninja movement. 9/10

like csgo but instead of your team saying that you suck its the game that says you suck.
