This game is under cooked. Come back in a year.

TL;DR: It's a 30 minute demo. 1 set of enemies on 2 maps. 2nd map looks like store assets arranged into a basic obstacle course. Fighter feels weak and sluggish. Perk system feels anemic. People claim this is a star fox successor but there isn't even any VA for the characters and barrel roll reflector is an rng perk that might not even show up in your run. Game is too easy and basic to be worth more than $5 rn.

Full Review:

The Second map may as well not exist. It's just neon outlined blocks in 3-4 different colors that act as an obstacle course. At least the first map looked like you were in some kind of city. It looks like a poor attempt at an audio surf course. This is made worse by the fact that the enemies are just reused from the first map. They even appear to be rolled out in the same order, zone by zone.

It is not an exaggeration that if you either beat the first 10 zones or you play for 30 minutes you've experienced the entire game. You're paying for a demo. I'm not kidding.

Your fighter comes out the gate half baked. The pacing of the game is very slow and the movement feels pretty sluggish. Reflector move from star fox is a perk you have to select during level up.

How to beat the demo: (this will be nerfed 100% even though its the only good feeling build right now); equip Gatling gun as soon as you unlock it, take all the crit/healing/energy restore on combo perks + laser drone when you level up and restart the map if you don't get magnet range extension by zone 3. Max Magnet range first then Gatling gun and laser drone, spend the rest on the combo perks. Ignore bomb equip it is grossly under-powered and borderline useless. There you're done. Demo complete. Since magnet range is not a universal perk, it is required for you to enjoy this game. The rest of the build maximizes the amount of enemies you'll potentially kill, allowing you to get more experience, which lets you get stronger. Also, maxing range allows you to focus on the combat instead of trying to chase down experience. Exp shards in a 3D basically on-rails shooter is excruciatingly painful if not done right. Getting that obstacle out of the way was the only time the game felt enjoyable. Too bad there's 0 replay-ability.

Speaking of survivors-like. The perk system is pretty barebones right now. The global perks might as well not exist (on a good run you'll get 100k+ currency, going from 2% bonus crit chance to 3% is 30k iirc). So the dev is funneling you in towards spending all your points on the fighter, which is fine, but right now it feels unrewarding. Everything is super basic and you'll feel no difference in power compared to selecting good perks while you play. It's basically a grind for the sake of it, and my time is more valuable than that.

This game needs a solid year of development before I would consider recommending it. The balancing is completely out of whack.

First of all the game doesn't even let you get your feet grounded. You have about 30-35 levels to get your build going across 10 item slots (5 actives and 5 passives) before experience gain plummets. Each of which has 5 levels AND with the recent weapon fusion update those fused weapons have an additional 5 slots.

If you want to make it far you have to plan around the first 30 points, don't spread yourself thin. Focus on no more than 3 weapons and 2 passives. Or 2 weapons that can be fused and 2 passives.

Speaking of the passives you don't really feel their impact at all except for cdr and attack speed. Besides that you're not going to notice any real difference in gameplay.

Treasure chest drops feel like they're there to pad your inventory. The chances of getting 1 seems very slim since elites only show up at specific intervals, and even if you do manage to get one you're most likely going to get some random rank 1 green passive that serves no purpose.

All in all the game just doesn't feel SATISFYING. You don't get to feel strong before the game starts to slow you down. It's just pretty pixels in an otherwise fairly generic survivors-like. Brotato, VS, Soulstone and Genesia all fair far better than this in its current iteration.

Well thought out overlapping systems that result in a game with a nice bit of depth. It's very satisfying to challenge the harder difficulties with a build in mind and have it pay off.

A lot better than the competition that have come after VS.

The character system, stat system, deck building, maps, modifiers, all of them have great synergy and provide a great playing experience. I sat down and played for about 10 hours straight. The depth in this game is unparalleled so far.

Also this is the first survivors-like with enemies that have attacks and don't just slowly run into you or do something basic like shoot 1 projectile or move faster than the others. Coordination, strategy and positioning all play roles.

My only wish is that I discovered this game when it was completed, it is definitely worth the price and there's already a fantastic amount of content for the type of game that it is. Looking forward to future updates and the full release.

Risk of Rain 1 veteran here. I'm closing in on 250 hours as of this review.

This game just gets better and better with each update. It improves on every aspect of the first one with an extra dimension involved. This is a sequel in the truest sense. Going back to Risk of Rain 1 will provide it's own experience but RoR2 just improves on every aspect in every single way.

I've only played on monsoon since the start but what sets this game apart as a roguelike is no matter how OP you get the enemies can still be a threat if you let your guard down for even a second. Not to mention if the vanilla challenge isn't enough you can make things way harder for yourself by turning on artifacts (that you have to unlock) that just up the difficulty.

There's a huge level of satisfaction with mastering your class as well. You know which buiilds really work well for them and you always know when you're on your way to a "god run". The RNG never feels punishing because nearly every item you find is useful to you in one way or another. Some items are universal or "top tier" but you can still succeed and have a lot of fun without them.

Then there's the multiplayer, grabbing 1-3 more people (I highly recommend using voice chat or joining the community discord server) really takes things to the next level. You get really satisfying team play moments on top of an added element you don't get in singleplayer where you enter "save the run" scenarios where all your teammates are dead and you're now battling way more enemies than you bargained for. Oh and you activated 6 shrines of the mountain on "HAHAHAHA" difficulty. Yes this is a real sentence that applies to the game, you'll have a smile on your face once you understand what this means.

The characters all have unique playstyles. With a well balanced "give and take" to each of them, there's also a focus on the character's function themselves since none of them have a visible face (you are on alien planet after all). The maps are extremely well designed, the music is on point and adds atmosphere, the aesthetic is solid.

If you like roguelikes there is literally nothing like this game on the market, it provides something unique and refreshing. 10/10 would buy again.

My close friend and I have been playing since Div Original Sin EE and the sequel is fantastic albeit with a few shortcomings after Act 1. Also the massive nerfs to the environment and status system in combat was definitely a misstep on Larian Studios' part. Downloading Div Original Sin 2 - DE as we speak to see if it's improved on the few areas I felt were stronger in the first game.

This game is amazing fun and I recommend anyone even remotely interested in rogue-likes with a decent amount of patience to pick it up. Biggest gripe is how many hurdles you have to jump through just to get a decent multi-player game going on. I highly suggest learning the ins and outs of Hamachi if you're invested in exploring this game to the fullest! Grab some friends and have a blast!
