Early Access Review
Fantastic!

Probably the first game that made me actually enjoy VR melee combat. the unique system of striking in certain ways, telltale signs on how to block attacks and having to do larger swings for more damage has you actually feeling like you're this synth-techno-knight the game wants you to be.

After my seventh hour I managed to upgrade several weapons with the rogue like system that persists between deaths and found myself screaming at the crystals for certain upgrades mid-mission, everything you'd want from a rogue-like.

However after my seventh hour I also noticed that it started to feel a bit like the same enemies, over and over. Maybe trying different weapon sets might mix it up but the enemies in each 'room' were mostly the same besides getting more and more difficult as you progress, but this IS early access.

Also once you hit a certain amount of upgrades for breaking 'guard' I found myself just swinging wildly before they could get a hit in so I could 'break' their guard rather than blocking the hits traditionally, but then you're back into the cool combo.

The weapons available include; greatswords, rapier, shortswords, daggers, axes, mace and hand held devices that can cast magic. Each weapon has a unique 'ability' attached to it and various stats forcing the player to heavily consider what pairs work well together in order to get the maximum potential. Personally I enjoyed using a sword that applied damage over time effect and one of the magic gloves, blocking a flurry of attacks from an elite with one hand just felt badass, I kept the other hand behind my back and cast spells from behind my back occasionally.

IMO this would become one of the essential games for VR much like Beatsaber, HL:Alyx and a few others. it has a few glaring issues but overall the experience is great. (Also, since I only ever used one arm I kinda look like I was doing something 'else' with my quarantine time, lol)
