Spoilers ahead.

The latest entry in the now almost yearly "meta" game. Even the reviews are the exact same thing you'd expect from it, with the same usual "don't read reviews, just play it!" "trust me, it's great!" comments trying to hype you up for something incredible, and the lots of meme references from the actual twist, but don't fall for it. Even if you go relatively blind it's already quite obvious what's going to happen if you simply follow any gaming website and read any of the recommendations, even if they're all spoiler free.

It is a relatively fun ride, specially for a free game, even if it's somewhat predictable and with a pay-off that's not that satisfying, with a build-up that feels in certain parts rushed and in others like a slog, with way too many hints about what's coming, from the Steam product page itself to when you first boot up the game, you already know some twist is going to happen, so when it actually does it cheapens the whole experience. The art is nice and cute, the music is alright, and the writing is for the most part good, though as I said, things could have been set up a lot better overall.

If you're into any of the themes, be it the cute anime girls or darker horror, by all means you should play it, but don't expect it to be as amazing as what the public response may make you think it is. I am aware "spoiling" that there is a twist can ruin the experience, but I believe that hiding it and pretending the game is something else like most other reviews do can do the exact same.

All that said, I guess my point is that the game isn't actually bad, but it's also nowhere near as good as you might think it is, which while not exactly the fault of the developer, I assume that's something definitely welcomed and desired. This type of game for some reason always attracts a certain kind of people, which in trying to convey their love for the game they end up elevating it to heights where it never reached and never even intended to. It also invites a lot of extra "off-game" discussion on places like YouTube, Tumblr, Twitter and other social platforms of a kind that I'm frankly not interested in.

While the multiplayer may not be a big evolution on the COD formula, it's still insanely addicting and fun, and the new additions such as Specialists, help to sorta 'modernize' the game a bit, where everyone has a different skill, similar to something like Dota. It does however feel a little bit unbalanced, with some of those skills being insanely powerful and giving (possibly 'unskilled') players a bit of an unfair advantage, but using crazy stuff like that is some of the most fun parts of playing COD, so it's a good addition. The weapons all feel like they have more defined roles and are better thought out, and the freedom to build your class however you want is really welcome, even though I can't say I enjoy being forced to play guns and level them up in order to unlock attachments, though I understand why it's ingame and how it may be rewarding for some players.

Absolutely no issues on an i5 4690 and a GTX 970. Running all maxed out at 60 FPS with no stuttering or drops. Had some occasional heavy rubberbanding on some servers, but sadly launch server issues seem to be the norm nowadays. It's a really good port, with most of the things a PC game should have, such as a FOV slider that goes up to 120, key rebinding, lots of graphical options, borderless window mode, etc. Not to mention modding tools coming next year, this is definitely one of the best CODs on PC in quite a long time.

Overall I'm quite happy with it. Sucks to see so many people with barely 1 hour of play time giving uninformed opinions and tanking the review score because it's apparently funny to make fun of COD nowadays, and they want their 5 year old PC to run a 2015 game with good graphics and no issues. Still, some of the reported issues were apparently fixed on a day one patch, even though I can't comment on them since I haven't experienced anything of the sort.

Can't comment on the singleplayer or zombies, but if you have a similar PC and want a fun, fast, action packed and addicting multiplayer that you can quickly pick up and play, it's definitely a good choice.

Overkill clearly doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about their fans, as much as they try to make people think otherwise. Since about a year ago the game has been going downhill, with most of the key people on the team leaving, and OVK trying its best to milk its players as much as they can. Releasing a few bad DLC's wasn't great, but it was mostly understandable, since they gotta keep the studio afloat, but when the monthly useless and expensive character, weapons and mod packs keep piling up, major features don't get implemented, bugs don't get fixed, and then they decide to copy CS:GO's microtransaction model almost 1:1, all while being all 'happy go lucky' on social media, as if everything is fine, while the community clearly shows that it's not, it's really hard not to completely lose hope on all of the future the game may have. It's just a matter of time until it goes free to play, and I believe that might come quite soon.

I had a good time with Payday 2, and it's quite sad to see the kind of bloated mess it has become, but it was Overkill's own doing, thinking they know what the community wants, but clearly ignoring the feedback they get.
