My friend secretly carried corpses in the inventory and proceeded to throw them as weapons in fights at very inappropriate times. No Notes.

It's amazing what you get out of this game considering it's early access and fairly inexpensive. It is fully functional and honestly I bought it expecting to get only what is in the current game. The recent update added a really cool new character, and no game every feels exactly the same, so it's got tons of replay value. I love it!

In general, this is a very fun game for me, and I think it can be if you aren't in it to win it, but play a fairly engaging space game, get creative and role play a little, and accept flaws (true of every game, though). I've gotten numerous hours out of this game and will continue to do so. Considering the cost per hour, it's a good value! From what I've seen, free content and fixes continue to be added, and the DLC alone may be a bit too expensive, but if you consider part of it the cost of continuing to put out fixes and content, it works out to be fair in my estimation.

A note about the Summer Sale drama: They have reversed their price increases and the CEO has apologized and given more guidlines for future increases. If you're worried about that, consider this update.

A note about "protest" reviews: Yes, DLC policies aren't great. Some people do it right, others not so much. It's become an industry problem. However, it doesn't change the quality of the underlying game, for better or worse. I guess if you want to throw money at companies with good DLC policies, then fine don't buy these games. I consider that a waste as Paradox isn't really doing it that poorly. They are clearly open to apologizing and changing course, and continue to work on the games after release, continually improving the game.

TL;DR Good game, especially if you go for experience vs competition/victory. Has flaws, and some unfinished parts, but overall still worth the cost per hour of fun. DLC/pricing issues aren't as bad to me as to others, and the company has shown willingness to reverse decisions and apologize.
