They took everything that was great about DD1, and then reworked everything that sucked about it. Resulting in a much better game.

This is what happens when you have a well-balanced board game, and then you try to play it with every single expansion pack ever released all at once. Fundamentally, it's exactly the same game as Spelunky 1, but there's way too much.
