Half-life 2 was the game that started me on the Steam platform, and it pissed me off no end having to download 2Gb of data for a game I'd bought a physical copy off. That issue still annoys me, but I have fond memories of playing this game, having played the original in my Uni days... Countless hours playing the original counterstrike, too. Lan parties, 6 computers, all hooked up to the same router, slaughtering 12 yos left&right & laughing hysterically over RogerWilko when our team is blown away by some kid with a deagle.

Fun times.

Garry's mod brought me back to it recently.

I've revitalised this game with the long war mod, & have been looking forward to the day australia gets it's act together and gives us country folk a decent internet infrastructure. Apparently we've just launched another satellite, but they suck as far as online gaming goes.

I bought XCom either last christmas, or the year before, for windows & registered it on Steam. That's where the bulk of my hours came from. However, my house is off-grid, self-contained solar, and PCs utilize more power than what my house batteries can manage. When I realised there was a mac version, I was thrilled, and was willing limit myself to downloading a mere 2Gb per month. Torture, dudes, watching it just sitting there in my downloads at 18.9gig for this last month.

I finally have it again, and can play it more often. YAY. This is the computer that travels with me, although admittedly it was meant to be solely for work....whoops.

I found the original game far too easy, even on the hardest difficulty. The EW expansion game more options, but was OP in favor of the player. Don't get me wrong, i've still enjoyed the game immensely, but I like a challenge.

The modability of a game is what I look for when deciding to purchase, and the long war mod is exactly what I needed to keep me firmly attatched to this game. Ok, it kills the multiplayer option, but as stated, I'm a country boy & my ping is terrible, so that was never an option anyway.

I would recommend this game to anyone who likes the genre. It strays from the original series gameplay in favour of showing off its visuals, but the mod makes up for the losses.

I'm playing on supposedly sub-par specs, with intergrated graphics, with a heavily modified .ini file, so the game runs smoothly for me.
