Later his disciples came and asked him, "Why do you use such parables when you speak to people?"
Jesus replied: "God lets you understand the secrets of his heavenly kingdom, but they are hidden from others.
Whoever understands these mysteries will gain even greater insight until he is richly endowed with them. But he who has no understanding will be deprived of even the little he has.
Therefore I speak in parables. For people see what I do and yet do not see. They hear what I say and yet do not hear or understand.
Thus is fulfilled in them what the prophet Isaiah foretold: 'You will hear and yet not understand, see and yet not recognize.
For the heart of this people is hard and indifferent. They are hard of hearing and close their eyes. That is why they neither see nor hear. They have no understanding and will not return to me, so I cannot help them and heal them.
