Imagine playing a game for five hours only to get yourself in a situation where you cannot win and your last recoverable save was an hour ago. Only to recover as you sacrificed a few provinces for your armies to retreat to a defendable position like the hot gates.

As the filthy Oda peasants amass for a siege, your general screams "THIS IS KAGA" as he Shogun kicks a captured ninja into a well. Your elite warriors line up side by side and make short work of the peasant army armed with pitch forks as your men's katanas gleam with blood and martensite. Only to be slowly dwindled down by mass ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ peasant archers that have fire arrows, your elite samurai get picked off dishonoruably afar from a man in a loincloth.

The actual gameplay for Shogun 2 is quite diverse. From the economic and diplomatic standpoint the game is turned base, as you set up buildings for your provinces to build up to bargaining trade routes and exchanging sons and daughters to secure alliances. Just be wary, the computer is very devious and in the end most alliances turn into treachery.

Think of a RTS where instead of creating a new army for every different map/campaign mission you play, you maintain your army throughout the entire camaign (unless you get them killed).

It is quite simplified compared to past Total War games, and if you have ever been interested in the Total War series I'd recommend this one.
