I admit, I went into this expecting the original with some graphical and audio tweaks ala HDTP.

I was wrong, and am so glad for it. The levels are subtly different - better, I'd contend, in layout and AI placement. The extra RPG elements from the Shifter mode are very much appreciated, making each kill (or knock-out) or hack or lock-picking contribute to your increasing abilitites.

The ability to pick up multiple items of the same type is ... novel. Not sure why I need two sniper rifles - there's no apparent weapon degradation mechanism.

Oh sweet Jesus, this is the game that started it all. Splinter Cell? BAH! THIS is the original stealth game. And when you finish the main plotline, there should still be heaps of Fan Missions (to varying degrees of quality, some eclipsing officially made stuff) over at ttlg.com and www.thief-thecircle.com
