I first played Dwarf Fortress back when it was 2d. The old interface wasn't that bad for me, but it's much more accessible now. Just be prepared to be confused and lose a lot at first.

This game is fun, addicting, and constantly updated. It has a ton of mods, so you can keep changing up the gameplay. I have way more hours than steam shows due to downloading builds directly from their website as well, so you can play the game outside of steam. Great with friends.

It's been a while since I've played this game, and I'm trying to write this review from memory.

This game is great. At its core, this game is a "metroidvania"-style puzzle game. As you progress, you unlock new abilities which you can then use in areas you already visited to unlock secrets (among other things). The level design itself involves a lot of interconnected areas not unlike Dark Souls. Different areas seem to come from different eras of game design, which gives most areas a unique feel to them.

The narrative is pretty interesting. You are inside of a video game that has been through development hell, and you are supposed to help finish it. Along the way you learn exactly what the developers have been through trying to finish the game themselves.

I'm not sure I'd call this a *good* game, but it is entertaining enough if you like FPSes and just want to shoot some aliens. Don't expect a deep story out of this. The game is decently hard, so if you choose the "hard" difficulty right off the bat expect to run into some difficulty spikes that will take a few tries to conquer. The game got way easier toward the end once you unlock all of the perks.

It also looks decent, although the environments get a little repetitive after a while.

While this game does have MP, the one time I checked for servers none were up, so I wouldn't count on that to extend its life.

That said, you might as well wait for a sale.

An insane grind. A toxic community. Unintelligent matchmaking.

The trifecta of terrible.

The core gameplay loop is amazing, and really shows that this type of game can work well. But it is absolutely weighed down by those three things. Don't buy this game unless you think you can deal with it.

This is one of the best stories in any horror game I've ever played.
