"As wide as a galaxy, with the depth of a puddle"

This sums up this game. Outdated graphics engine, terrible story, horrible bugs and physics, flight system is literally fast travel with extra steps, characters lack any sort of depth and feel robotic, majority of the playable space empty and boring. Bethesda seem to be stuck in the glory days of Fallout 3 when it was actually good, but now it's just laughable they actually thought the state of this game was acceptable in 2023.

Received this game for free through a CPU purchase and I am not even compelled to play it. There is nothing here that is worthwhile praising and it's time for Xbox/Microsoft to give Bethesda (and Todd Howard) a real ultimatum and boot in the rear end. Every game Bethesda has released recently has been a massive flop and fail. Starfield is no different.

Avoid this game, do not give it your money. Even if you can get it for free, don't play it.

The devs literally are biased and one-sided, listening to only feedback from their most vocal players.
They implement changes just because you exist in the map as a killer, how dare you use strategy because survivors just ♥♥♥♥♥ and moan when they don't win.

The devs are honestly disgraceful and have no idea what they are doing. How dare a killer use their brain and give up territory to protect gens....

Survivor somewhere: Wahhh wahhh qq qq
Devs: It's soo unfair, we will fix this

The whole dev team needs to be sacked, the game given to devs that actually know what they are doing.

This review has been updated as of May 2024 and many of the points below still remain true. A few things have been edited for clarity mostly around the battlepass premium currency and pros and cons. There has been improvements in areas but unfortunately it is still a case of Blizzard taking 1 step forward, 3 steps backwards. Continue reading and take in this review as its critical but fair constructive feedback

The original Overwatch game gave me many happy hours (over 2000) of fun over the years. Made a lot of friends over that time. Whilst Overwatch 2 has now launched and yes, there are issues with the game, the core fundamentals of the game, the mechanics, the story, the heroes, the abilities, the maps and game modes are all great.

I will not deny that the monetisation in this game is aggressive and overpriced, like many of free to play games, however Overwatch 2 does do this a lot worse than other titles. There is a remarkable improvement needed and Blizzard have a lot of work to do to earn the trust back of its player base. Blizzard should be receptive to constructive criticism and improvement in acknowledging player feedback and concern.

However, you do not need to spend any money in this game to play the core PvP experience, which is what Overwatch started its life as. Give it a go, ignore the shop and just play the game.

Pros:

- Free to Play PvP experience
- Seasonal content including new heroes (every second season), maps, game modes, challenges
- Competitive has been reworked as of Season 9, still has issues but at least you can now see your rank progress and modifiers unlike before after every game
- Developers have been showing signs of listening to the community
- Character design, dialogue and art style is fantastic
- Now on Steam
- First Person Shooter!

Cons:

- Monetisation is aggressive and overly expensive
- PvE story missions do cost money ($15 USD) and are a shell of what they were meant to be
- Seasonal content quality/quantity can sometimes be lacking especially in non-hero launch seasons
- Original vision of Overwatch 2 was discarded and there has been some controversies regarding this
- Battlepass reasonably priced but does not reward enough premium currency unlike other F2P games (Edit: Season 10 reworked the battlepass to shift the weekly challenge coins to the battlepass for a total of 600)
- Matchmaking and balance changes can be questionable at times
- Tank is unplayable right now and not fun to play (May 2024)

Tl;dr - Download the game and play the free components of it, recommend not putting any money into the game for the time being until feedback has been recognised by Blizzard.
