This is a fairly thorough review, so get your cup of coffee and find a comfy seat. This is a big one folks.

Where to start? Well, let's go back to the 90s. The concept of a deathmatch fps was fairly unknown up until the release of this game. Other companies tried the concept with varying degrees of success, most notably Nintendo with its Virtual Boy. Although Virtual Boy didn't quite get the deathmatch fps down, it did release hits like 3D Saber and Microsoft Flight Simulator.

A few years later Valve released Deathmatch Classic. Although generally unknown with the mainstream crowd, it quickly garnered an underground cult following. Tournaments were done in dusty abandoned warehouses between gamer gangs, where legends like "HeatoN" rose through the ranks and took the gaming world by storm. Unfortunately Nintendo noticed this blossoming scene and sued Valve to shut it down. Today, there's no proof these tournaments even happened due to Nintendo's aggressive kamakazi litigation campaign, but true gamers know the story.

Today, Deathmatch Classic is a shell of what it was. Valve was unable to fund development after exhausting its resources to pay for expensive lawyer fees, and the game has remained virtually unchanged since. Fortunately Deathmatch Classic is still a hoot to play, and legend has it those underground tournaments of yesteryear are still happening under the darkness of the night.
