As for UI, there were a host of surprising short comings which all together made for a negative experience. Random things that come to mind: not being able to tell how or why your shots missed (and thus predict combat), overall sluggish response to mouse clicks and slow animation speed, and strange organization of menus.
Finally, the art style didnt do the game justice. While the character portrait art can be forgiven as thematic, the in-game character sprites cannot. The top-down look of the game characters resulted in a kind of squished and unpleasant looking set of sprites. Same goes for the enemies.
