Early Access Review
Great game, suffers from some jank here & there but it's still in early access so I really don't mind. Atmosphere is wonderful, sound FX are fitting, could use a bit more weapon variety.

//EDIT Also the map design is wonderful. The way the different planes and areas intersect and loop back especially on the first chapter is thoroughly enjoyable.

Great enjoyable action in the ways of the schools of yore -- recommended.

After a few hours it seems OK. When the mechanics don't jank out it's a good & enjoyable game. Probably Cyanide's best work.

Regarding the detective gameplay, exploring, dialogue (mostly), world building, ambient sound design and athmosphere the game was pure CoC bliss, but I did had some griefs with the game.

Sometimes the dialogue options do not properly convey what your character ends up saying, and if it's a "locked" option the only way to go back is to load the last checkpoint. Luckily these are few and far between. I really think game designers should revert back to the model where the entire sentence your character ends up saying is displayed on screen, especially in dialogue heavy games.

The end game-ish combat sequence is awful, and they should not have included it.

Stealth sequences are also rather lackluster, but at least it's not gamebreaking. The first one is great, though.

I'm not a fan with the way they dump you with a ton of skillpoints but you can't level up medicine or occult with them. I wasn't able to max out occultism in my first playthrough, which is my fault I guess. The skills however do change the outcomes satisfyingly and even if they seem simplified they really do have an impact to the way you play and progress in the game.

I would recommend this game full price for serious CoC fans - others might want to wait for a sale. But even with the negative aspects mentioned above it's a solid, good detective/adventure game.
