I've only done one run so far, but I feel like this accurately portrays what depression is like. Having the "obvious" choices to "improving" being crossed out really speaks to me as someone whose depression just. Makes their executive dysfunction worse. I would LOVE to do those options! I really would! Can I, in the state that I am in? No. I can't.
As art and interactive fiction and a means to help show what depression is like from the inside, I think it's a great tool for that. I don't think many people who aren't receptive to what it's like to be trapped in depressive episodes are going to appreciate it for that. Read the opening statement that appears before any other text does. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

I already own this on ps3 and that's how I know it's a good game, because I don't finish a lot of games but I sure as ♥♥♥♥ finished this one.
now if only I could stop being quest-gated out of the DLC content on the ps3 version, I'd be happy.

This game is so much fun. It's more of the same fun that you get in 10,000,000, but with a bit more things to upgrade/work on, and a bit more difficulty.

This story is much better than the first one, both in the sudden spoilery events of FMS one being graphic while not nearly as much graphicness in this one, as well as also helping to show growth in Selphine's character. This episode does pacing and setting much better than the first one, even when considering that the first episode has a lot of worldbuilding to give. I found it much easier to immerse myself in episode 2, and feel that things were of a relatively natural flow.
The "hidden" achievements haven't gotten any less skeevy though.
Mechanically, VN transitions are better than the first; I especially loved one of the events that happens early in the story, due to how it was played out. The only spoiler I will give is this: This episode has no pseudo-choices like episode 1, and is purely a linear novel.

Overall, if you were uncertain about continuing the story for any reason from FMS 1, let me assure you that FMS 2 is MUCH better.

After playing Planetarian first, Harmonia had a tough act to follow. The set-up was good, it got a little dry partway through, and, for me, the plot twist made the story suddenly fall into chaotic array, so much so that it made me lose a sense of immersion in the narrative, or in stuff that made sense. It also didn't really connect back to Planetarian, so it's more like a spiritual sequel than a narrative/elsewhere story sort of sequel.
That said, I did enjoy the characters for the most part, and the story up until the immersion-breaking twist. However, coming from the Clannad anime and Planetarian, I was a little TOO prepared to really succumb to any sort of heart-clutching feels.

A good story with beautiful artwork. While I am not a person with anxiety, I strongly suspect that the main character Samantha is an accurate portrayal of an anxious and emotionally needy person, and that the story accurately reflects those characteristics that others might relate to.
While it might seem like a "girls love" game, there's only four or five endings, only one of which counts as that-- the others are either "bad" endings for Sam, and one "good" ending.
It's definitely worth reading through all the routes, and if you follow the achievement guides, you should be able to see most, if not all, of the text and interactions, and be able to best understand the story and history between all of the girls.

also it totally includes bonus background information on the authors that the girls are named after, so you should totally check that out once you're done~

tl;dr well-written anxious, depressed, emotionally-dependent main character, worth reading alone for that.

Tldr - good worldbuilding, decent long play time, doesn't rally get difficult and low level cap (not necessary for actually winning....)

This is, perhaps, my first long fantasy RPG experience, outside of Baten Kaitos and FF titles. It's definitely got a lot of lore/story/in-game history, and some fun line choices, but it does get a little repetitive and long-drawn, and the fights get easier as you level up. Even if you change difficulty part way through to hard, the monsters retain their easiness. I didn't die even once, which is a first for me in a game. No real romance or S/O options, though you do get maybe one in the main game, and two in the Dead Kel DLC, and they don't seem to be gender-limited. I've only played through once, though.
There's a LOT to do in this game, especially if you like doing sidequests. Unfortunately, the studio went down, and several people have posted issues with bugs (the only one I had was a resolution/screen one that got fixed tinkering around in the settings), and I only had one side quest glitch out on me because I approached from the wrong side. It's open world, though, so I guess that was bound to happen at some point.
This game's got a lot of beautiful scenery though, and has had quite a few humorous lines, so it's not hardcore serious, and it's especially funny watching some of the bodies fly around when they die.
The game's definitely got a lot of story to it, yet I wouldn't exactly call it story-rich, since I went more than halfway thru the game without noticing events lining up, or understanding things as part of an over-arching arc with the main questline, and the main quest itself is a little lacking of interest imo, but I did enjoy learning what the loose ends were at the very end.

Since I've not yet played any of the other major fantasy A-RPGs, I can't vouch for how it fares up to stuff like Dragon Age and TES, but I can say that it's definitely worth trying. You get at least 2 free hours to explore and do whatever in the demo, which is a pretty good indication of what you'll get to experience in the rest of the video game. Or you'll find out if you can run it or not.
If you get it on sale that's an even better deal, but if you can get all the DLC + base game for $20 or less, that's worth the length and adventure in my book.

Ame no Marginal is another linear visual novel that tells an interesting story about two people who are not interested in returning to the "normal" world. While not as tearful as Narcissu 1st & 2nd, Ame no Marginal does a great job of still pulling you along emotionally, and getting you invested in the characters' lives. Unlike Narcissu, Ame no Marginal contains an element of fantasy in its storytelling. A lot of tracks from Narcissu are re-used in Ame, and a bonus chapter from Narcissu, as well as the entire 1st story, is included as bonus content after completing the linear novel. However, it feels vastly shorter than Narcissu does.
Overall, if you liked Narcissu, then you'll like Ame no Marginal. If you want to see more from this author, definitely consider purchasing their work so we can see more from them here on Steam!
