After 7.5 years, this is still the best Call of Duty multiplayer experience you can get. It may be unbalanced, maybe there are some hackers/modded lobbies, but it's just really fun game. A lot of people still play it, sou don't worry about finding a lobby, it takes about 3 seconds for me to get into a lobby on TDM or FFA.
And about the campaign, the Modern Warfare series has a great story to offer, so it is worth to play through. Not talking about the soundtrack, Hans Zimmer is a god.
