A dream-like, turn-based combat game from Bastion creators Super Giant Games, Transistor is a short but sweet story about an unlikely relationship. The omniscient narrator returns this time in the form of a tool (Transistor) that the singer protagonist (Red) can use to pause time, plan her attacks, then execute in real time. Over time, Red acquires new programs for the Transistor that can act as active abilities, passive abilities, or upgrades for her active abilities. It's a very interesting system that encourages experimentation, especially since enemies also get tougher themselves over the course of the story necessitating adaptation. You can also increase the difficulty (and gain more XP simultaneously) with special mods that make combat more challenging. The game's narrative can get esoteric at times so be warned. Nonetheless, Transistor is a beautiful game that gets my recommendation for it's music and art direction.
