Certainly interesting and worth playing, but doesn't quite have the spark that makes the Katamari series so fun.

Story
The end of the world is coming, at the hands of a giant demon with the head of a fish. You might not be able to stop it, but with a magic puppet you have for some reason, you intend to pick up as much as you can before you run out of time. Just a little weird, and something I had forgotten after leaving the Steam store page.

Presentation
Graphically, some okay graphics. You know what you are looking st and picking up, and the ways those items are integrated into the puppet are pretty nice. Locations look nice, and it is difficult to fault the game here.

As for music and sound effects, there isn't much to say. The menu music is something I enjoyed listen to, but the rest is rather boring, and the sound effects are sparse, with some clicks for menu items along with sucking sounds and a bounce effect while wandering the levels.

Controls
Does the job. No Katamari style dual stick movement here. You use the mouse to navigate the menus, while within levels, WASD or arrow keys move the puppet while the mouse is used to control the camera. This game also has partial controller support, which allows you to use a gamepad for movement, but doesn't enable anything else on the pad. I much preferred using this as moving with the 360 analog stick felt more accurate for me, even without camera control.

Gameplay
Provided you have played a Katamari game in the past, you should already know what to expect. Move around the levels, picking up items smaller than yourself, with the goal of picking up as many items as you can before the time run out. The only change is that you are no longer rolling a ball, but moving a weird puppet around the level. This puppet will absorb smaller items while bouncing off larger ones, so you want to get as many smaller items as you can to help increase your size. At the start of the level, you might be rolling up toy cars and donuts, and finishing up with fire trucks and sky scrapers. Each level has a time limit where you have to pick up as much as you can to get a higher rank, requiring at least an A to unlock each level. This score isn't based on your size, but on items you have picked up, so picking up a couple of bottle will help that more than a bus. Took me a while to realize this when I was going for higher ranks to beat the game.

Lifespan
This game has a total of 12 levels to play in, each supporting three gameplay modes, though you need to beat 11 of the levels in order to unlock the extra modes. The standard mode is Timed, where you play as described above. The first extra mod is Timeless, which you attempting to pick up a certain number of items as fast as you can, despite the name. The other is Exploration, allowing you to do as you want in any of the 12 levels. There are also a number of achievements, ranging from reaching a certain number of items during your play time, finding a certain item in several of the levels, and resetting your save and then beating all 12 levels in one go. I don't see myself going for that last one any time soon.

So, not a bad game, but despite the similarities, it is no Katamari either. I say give it a purchase when it hits a sale.

Thanks, sounds interesting. Will definitely give it a try when it's on sale ;)
