I still find it confusing that you refer to libavc1394 as libav in patch notes. Libav is actually an existing application that is a lot different than what is available in the SteamOS repo.

I'm going to be looking into programming HLA and C language applications sometime in the future, possibly after getting my CompTIA A+ certification and become more educated and experienced at programming.

I'm using XBMC from http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/steamos and the new VAAPI breaks nvidia support for VAAPI hardware acceleration. I get white blocks on H264 videos. Had to turn it off to force it to use VDPAU.

I installed the update . steamos told me to reboot . I reboot and now the steamos box hangs on a black screen with a mousepointer in the middle .

in dmesg i get a constant :
[] fglrx: disagrees about version of symbol module_layout

and there it hangs .

More people that see this or am i the only one . Im using AMD cpu + AMD gpu .

I'm not sure but do you say you solved it ? Or did you reinstall steamOS entirely to "fix" it .

Are you also running an AMD videocard ?

AMD video cards are temperamental with SteamOS, mostly AMD's fault. AMD doesn't quite pay attention to their Linux drivers as much as Nvidia does. I suggest everyone just stick with Nvidia cards until AMD gets their sh** together.

What is the output of "sudo dkms status" on your system? The fglrx module should have been rebuilt when installing the new kernel, but it looks like it was not in your case.

Try wiggling the HDMI cord. Sometimes cords get old and shot. My cord's been plugged in and unplugged so many times sometimes the video cuts out.
