We just released a SteamOS beta repository update; see the SteamOS FAQ for information about opting in alchemist_beta updates.

• Add additional packages needed by XBMC
  
• acpi-support - upstream security fixes CVE-2014-1419
  
• apache2 - upstream security fixes CVE-2014-0226, CVE-2014-0231,
  
• cups - upstream security fixes, CVE-2014-5029, CVE-2014-5030,
  
• e2fsprogs - latest upstream release
  
• iceweasel - upstream security fixes CVE-2014-1547, CVE-2014-1555,
  
• mysql-5.5 - upstream security fixes CVE-2014-2494, CVE-2014-4207,
  
• steamos-compositor - Fix regression where the overlay would sometimes flicker.

after getting into the steamos alchemist_beta I get a black screen on virtualbox. I think it has something to do with steamos-compositor. I installed steamos-compositor on my ubuntu virtualbox too and it also gives me a black screen.

I'm surprised you got it to work in Virtualbox at all, it's not exactly a supported usecase.

How hard would it be to make so that "Steam" is one of entries in XBMC menu (weather, pictures, videos, music, settings)
