Community! I need your help!
Hello everyone!

I'm working on my end-of-year statistical analysis, and I need a bit of input from all of you to help me make a decision. Just to make sure we're all on the same page, here's a link to a similar article from last year:

https://explorminate.net/2017/01/16/2016-end-of-year-statistical-examination-part-1/

The main goal of these articles it to examine the 4X market on Steam. This year, I'm stuck with a thorny issue I can't resolve by myself. This past January, THQ Nordic put Imperium Galactica 2 up on Steam for the very first time. It's a high-res version of the classic 1999 game.

What I would love from all of you was some input on whether or not I should include IG2 in my year-end analysis as a new game *for Steam*. I didn't include MoO 1-3 last year because Wargaming gave out tons of free copies to people who bought MoO: CTS. But it doesn't look like THQ has done the same thing for IG2. It seems the only people who have it, bought it.

Including old games like IG2 poses some problems. For instance, what if all the classic games like Master of Magic or Ascendancy eventually get put on Steam? Would including them really be looking at the market for current games? I don't know. Mainly, I do these articles for all of you, so I'm very keen to know what you would like. Should I include IG2 (and maybe other future re-releases of old games) or should I exclude them?

Thanks for reading!

The retro market is still quite important for 4X games. If retro sales > new game sales then that indicates that the new games aren't appealing to new gamers. So I think unless IG2 and other retro games have sales (sales not giveaways\owners) comparable to the new games, it should not be included.

agree with Mr. Kill. What will you do when Star Control comes out? I'd definately rebuy older games if they were optimized for the newer operating systems and higher res graphics.

I agree with Mr. Kill

In the case of IG2 I just point out that afaik it has not been available anywhere for some years - other than places like ebay etc. Whereas MOM has been available on GOG for years.

If you have all the data, would it be too much trouble to generate charts both with and without old games. Maybe just do your analysis/story on the data without old games.

Unless you find something interesting comparing the two set of data, then make a small blurb on that.

I like what you're saying here. The retro market is important. I wish I had access to GOG's data. That would be fun. I just want to make sure I'm not clouding the data.

That's an interesting point.
