And what, exactly would win Steam (And the game publisher) earn from such a move?
Steam is a Business, not a charity.

If you want free games, there's a whole cathegory you can look into.

I dont no. i just want mw3 for free.
SnarKs Oct 29, 2012 @ 10:57am
its been suggested before. More to the point, the suggestion sounds very prone to abuse. Even if it magically didnt get abused, thats a lot of games to give away for free.

According to your estimation, One Billion Eight Hundred Million dollars would be spent on free games per year.
DonJonko Oct 29, 2012 @ 12:16pm
or you should just be able to "rent" a game, like a free weekend sort of deal (lots of people buy the game after they tried it).

I think the idea is nice, but it will not work. :(

How about just $5 in your wallet on your birthday? That would work for me.

Or maybe a percentage off coupon or something. Heck, I get those from all sorts of retailers around my birthday every year, I see no reason why Valve couldn't do it. The free game idea though might be a bit much to ask.

That would be 150 million (aprox.) out of Valves pocket every year. Nah, I'd rather they spend that on server upkeep and making games.

Considering how there are millions of people using Steam and the ability to make an account is fast and easy, unlikely. It's open to explotation and will cause a huge slash in revenue, which will certainly make Valve go out of business.

Why do people keep making suggestions that make absolutely zero economic sense? If you don't know where money comes from or understand that such a loss means lots of people will lose their jobs, then you should not be making suggestions.

And from now on, everybody's birthdays will be a week after the big titles are released.

Because people are selfish and lack empathy.
I can imagine OP answer if he was told by his boss 'I want you to work for me for free on my birthday'
[Assuming he has the legal age to work, and earn his own money which i assume he doesn't]
Castleson Oct 29, 2012 @ 3:38pm
