do i get steam xp from getting games?

i just got a new game and i swear that after i got it my "You need (random number) to reach next level" was lower then befor

any help would be nice

Actually I'm not sure how th emath works. I'ts 100XP for having any game on Steam (non-F2P) then some amount of XP for each game you own.

You gain experience based on how many games you own on Steam via the game collector badge.

Somebody from Valve explained it on another board. I can't find the post, but as best I recall, you can get a total of 1,000xp from owning games. But as soon as you own a game, you get 100xp. So, each time you purchase a game, your xp goes up incrementally, each time going up by a smaller amount as you approach the 1,000xp cap.

Hmm, maybe I've got the cap wrong. But I'm pretty sure the theory is still right. I'll have to try to find the original post where they explained it.

Ok, there's the original quote from a Valve person. So I guess after you hit 1,000 games it will have leveled off to 1xp per game.

Actually until you get to 1000xp some will be LESS than 1 XP. But well done on digging up a 3 year old thread.
