Will I Get Trade Banned?

I've been a clean trader for over three years now, and this big mess came up.

I've only traded items from TF2 (which I now have quit) and CS:GO. A few weeks ago, I decided that I wanted Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, so I began searching the Steam Trading Forums for somebody selling it for CS:GO items. I found a guy named Dante, who has a friends-only profile and it is only a few months old. He had an untradable gift of the game in his inventory, which he said would be tradable in about a month. He wanted 13 keys for it because at the time it was on sale, and was only about $30. I agreed to give him the keys and told him I wanted to wait until it was tradable so we could do the trade and that would be that.

He then messaged me a couple minutes later saying that he wanted to do the trade right then. He said I appeared reputable since I haven't had any reports on SteamRep and I have a good amount of +Rep on my profile, so he said he would GIFT me the game first, and I could give him the 13 keys through the trade window after I received the gift. I received the gift and added it to my game library. I then was a little skeptical since this was a completely foreign area of trading for me, so I decided to go on the Steam Forums to see if people have been scammed like this. I saw multiple threads of people getting their received gifts removed from their inventories due to the gift being revoked by the person that bought it and they didn't get their items that they traded back. The way they explained the situations was exactly like the situation I was in, so I assumed that this guy was trying to scam me. Another reason I figured he was trying to scam me was that he was being very impatient and wanted the keys right away. I then confronted him and he of course denied scamming. I refused to give him the keys and told him to revoke the gift and get his money back, but he refused. He then reported me on the Fortress of Gamers forums and a week later or so I got banned on SteamRep, multiple trading sites such as ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and CSGO Outpost, and most trading servers on CS:GO.

I appealed on the website and they said I had to pay him back, which I agreed to. I said it would take a while for me to get the money since I traded the keys for skins. All this while I've been trying to get the money to buy the keys, but he keeps bothering me on Steam about it and he was constantly rude about it. I've been nice throughout this whole process and after a couple weeks of this, I got sick of it. I found multiple trading sites that I could still use and I could obviously still use the Steam Trading Forums. I told the guy off and later on a moderator from the website contacted me via Steam and asked if I was sure I didn't want to pay the guy back. I explained that I've been being nice to everyone and all I receive is this rude attitude from everyone and I was sick of it. He then said that he told the guy to report me on Steam for scamming.

I then was extremely nervous and spent over a half-hour looking everywhere on Steam such as the Steam Terms & Agreements, and Steam Support. I became increasingly frantic as I was searching these pages.

Can anybody provide any feedback as to whether or not I may get trade banned? I have no previous offenses as I mentioned. I'm scared as to whether or not it will be permanent and I've heard there's no way to appeal. I have over $500 worth of items in my inventory and I don't want it all to be taken by Steam or become completely untradable. I'm incredibly flustered and any insight would be more than appreciated. Its your choice dude but its possible the trader could get the gift back.

It's not my choice as of right now. They've probably reported me on Steam already. I kept stressing to him to please revoke the gift and get his money back, but he kept refusing. I believe he was only refusing to do so because it would make it harder on me.

Sounds like you took a gift and gave nothing in return. He shouldn't have given you a gift , it should have been a trade when the game was tradable and you have taken a free game from him when he was expecting your keys in a trade.

Yes you could in theory be trade banned but probably wont because all you did was accept a gift from a user.

If he does that youll could very well be trade banned.

First of all, thanks for taking time to respond. I appreciate an actual moderator responding with good insight.

And yes, all that happened was I accepted a gift that was sent to me. None of this happened inside of the trade window. So to clarify, you don't believe I will get trade banned? If I do, do you believe it will be temporary or permanent? Thanks so much.

No, it's not possible. I added it to my library initially thinking that this was legit, but I then became skeptical and started researching this kind of situation. I would be more than willing to give him the gift back if it wasn't in my game library.

It depends on steam support. If you've told this user to report you and get his money back something could happen to you. I'd expect at least a scammer warning when others try and trade with you.

If you've taken a game for free when you know you should have paid for it then try to resolve this before action is taken. It will help your case if and when something does happen.

I didn't tell the user to report me, but a moderator on the third-party forum did. Unfortunately there's no way I can resolve it now because they've rejected my appeal on their website and I doubt they'll accept another one.

The thing is, I don't know if there's any way I can reverse this. There's probably already a report out for me on Steam. I guess the most I can do now based on what's being said is to just wait and hope I don't get trade banned.

First, "+rep" means nothing here on Steam or anywhere else for that matter. That is one of the easiest things to fake and it is not a good way at all to decide if you want to trade with someone or if someone else wants to decide to trade with you.

And just because of that reason, of "+rep"not meaning anything, it makes no difference anyway because you are only supposed to trade what fits into one single trading window. When someone that you are not familiar with wants to send you a gift, that is a red flag right there, perhaps.

I understand and am fully aware of all of that. I received this gift over Steam. I never did anything outside of the trading window besides speak with the guy. We didn't even do a trade inside of the trading window. He sent me a gift, I received it, and added it to my library.

No thats not all you can do. You owe him the keys, making no attempt to correct your mistake makes you a scammer.

I agree with you, but I'm unsure if Steam moderators will even take that into consideration. I'm worried they may look over that completely and just trade ban me anyway with the given evidence.
