Steam Client Freezes PC After Updating to Latest Update...(Explaination/Backstory)
Guys, please help me. It's been like this for almost a week now! I dunno if I have a virus or not...(I ran a virus scan days before this happened and almost 2 months ago.) But here's what happened...Originally...First I was playing Gmod, and then the WiFi dissapeared sooo Steam switched to "Offline Mode", then I exited Gmod to check my internet, but about 5 seconds after I exited the game it came back. So I restarted Steam so that it would connect, then my PC froze seconds after I pressed the button...Almost half an hour later it unfroze itself. Then I turned off my PC for 3-4 Hours...And turned it on again, then I opened Steam again...Then a new update came so it started installing, during the installation it froze again... I went to safe mode, then tried to fix it...But no luck. Days later, which is today, the installation finally finished! Great! But, after that, the window closed, then I waited for the client to open itself, I didn't do anything cuz I wouldn't risk getting my PC frozen...I thought "Maybe, it's taking so long because it's a large update!"...Then it didn't open, I checked the Task Manager and it said Steam was disabled or something like that...After that I closed the TM and guess what? It froze again...

I kept restarting and doing the best I can, And here's the 3 things that could happen if I opened Steam:

1. Steam doesn't open, but it doesn't freeze the PC...(I can do anything that doesn't involve Steam.)

2. It still won't open, but it doesn't freeze the PC, unless I open the task manager or open an app...

3.It still won't open, then it freezes the PC seconds after I pressed the Steam app...

(I think it also affected Chrome days ago, but it seem okay now.)

Not sure what you meant by this reply and because it has been a while, but I personally have seen several users here lately have issues with AVG and Steam. Maybe AVG updated or otherwise changed or it is just coincidence but it really does not matter because.....

AVG is on the list, in bold and with a green symbol

That means it really does not get along with Steam for some users. Don't take my word for it, as you can use the forum search and see for yourself.

After you resolve the issue of AVG and/or other problematic software that you may have, you must understand that further steps may be needed in order to resolve your problems here..as in depending on what AVG or other software has borked up at this point.

Usually, problematic AV programs do damage to Steam games (quarantine the .exe files, for example), and they leave Steam files alone but that is not always the case so just keep that in mind and post back for more help if needed.

Thanks.
