The real Steam user forums are gone and now redirect here.
Help!
Apparently the old, good Steam powered user forums, usually reachable at http://forums.steampowered.com are now gone.
If you try to reach them, you 're being redirected to this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ community forum.

This happened without any warning from Valve. 20 years of discussions gone.
Incredibly interesting threads, like the Marc Laidlaw Vault, collecting all the answers Marc gave to HL fans, disappeared.

Why, Valve?

I'll chime in as another person still using the old forums, far more helpful and friendly than the majority of the new forums in my (limited) experience.

That is the opposite of what it means. It means,

"deprecation is the discouragement of use of some terminology, feature, design, or practice; typically because it has been superseded or is no longer considered efficient or safe – but without completely removing it or prohibiting its use"

The words very usage means it is still available for use.

And why do you think it is that? Because it may go away at any point in future! The forums have been usable since they were deprecated. They have been deprecated for liteterally years. You were discouraged from using them, but you didn't listen. Now, you have no choice but to listen but blame yourself if you ignored that "discouragement of use" thing all those years.

RIP old forums.

Been using the real SPUF for years right up until earlier today.
Much more pleasant and tight-knit community than here IMO.

I think the people in here saying that 'no one used them' and the like are a little misinformed and misled. Was a hub and a community that many of us chatted in and contributed to on a multiple-times-daily basis.
Seems like ties and access to all of this and all of our friends and everything has just been rudely and arbitrarily culled on a whim without a heads up..

Just Valve and Gabe continuing to be anti consumer and not bothering to think about the ramifications of their actions yet again I guess.

Just direct your contribution to these forums. It's not like you can't help out people or talk to friends hiere. Au contraire, talking to friends here is way easier due to actual integration with Stem!
PS: The heads up has been there, the forums have been deprecated for years.

The problem with what they did is communication, pretty much everyone knew this moment would come, but without a warning it felt like a backstab, at least for the people who used it.
As it's been mentioned several times, it's not just the chatting. It's years of useful information that simply vanished. Discussions about more than just games. And some people didn't even use Steam for quite some time, yet they kept posting on SPUF because they liked the community there.

Also, I've to agree with the post above me. What's more annoying is the complete lack of communication on Valve's part. But I guess that's the way with New Valve. Change everything, then tell the community.

Funny how much salt there is in here. Talk about how much less toxic it was despite being outright toxic themselves, calling for spam and lobbing around insults about their overlords lol.

I don't mean to be rude, but the majority of posts here, 9/10 times is reposts. The amount of people that won't or don't use a basic search to see if a thread has already been created is ridiculous, they're even less likely to do a search on the old and busted forums.

A little head-ups would have been nice. Maybe a 2 day countdown or something...

If we didn't have the TIAM group i wouldn't even have found out about this. or lost contact to all the cool people i enjoy hanging out with.

Maybe those people won't; but what about those of us who still used the old forums? I had several threads bookmarked, which included various guides and fixes for old games, plus useful links and such. Now all of that is gone.

Even more, we also had plenty of interesting discussions as well. There was an active movie discussion thread, as well as one for TV series.

Well, it's possible to recreate that in the offtopic thread.
Also this post just proves my point.
