The Steam Wallet code you have entered is invalid. Please carefully verify the characters as you re-enter the code.
I have entered the code so many times, with spaces, no spaces, dashes, no dashes. It just wont work.

Then talk to the retailer you purchased it from and tell them that it is incorrect.

Where did you buy it? You have the receipt showing it was activated?

Did your code have Zeros in it? Maybe you entered it as the letter "O" instead of Zero "0".

No zeros or Os

chances are it was activated incorrectly, you should have a web receipt in your e-mail or credit card record. you will need to request replacement with customer service.

i would wait a while however, server maintenance may be the culprit.

The retailer will be neither able nor willing to assist. They have no way to confirm anything.

i would wait a bit, server maintenance is ongoing. this may be the culprit. if not, then follow through with contacting customer service of best buy.

this is incorrect, when its found to be invalid they will attempt to initialize activation. if that fails they place the card behind the desk and issue a new one. my source is i've ran into this issue before and had gotten it resolved.

I can save you time and let you know how this conversation is going to go if you want.

You: Hi, we bought this gift card online and it doesn't work. We don't have a receipt but we want a refund.

Poor schmuck working the counter: We can't do that. We're not allowed to issue refunds for gift cards, especially without a receipt.

You: Why not? I bought it at your website!

Poor schmuck: Because we have no power over their system. We have no way to confirm the card is bad. We have no way to confirm the card hasn't been used. For all we know, you used it after buying it and now want money back so it will be free. We have no way to deactivate the card after it has been activated, and we have no way to revoke the funds after they have been added to an account.

You: Then I want a replacment card.

Poor schmuck: Again, we can't do that.

You: Why not?

Poor schmuck: For the same reasons we can't do a return. You will need to contact whoever owns the gift card system. In this case, Steam. You need to contact Steam.

You: but I bought it here!

Poor schmuck: Doesn't matter. We can't do anything. You need to contact Steam.

So I suggest saving yourself and the poor schmuck who has to work at a customer service desk the trouble and just contact Steam and report it as damaged.

Yeah, no. I've worked behind those counters. We can't issue replacment cards, and certainly can't just swipe them and activate them because the process of doing so charges the store money. Which means we need to take money from you to activate it. This is why the receipt always include some number to identify what card is activated.
