There's a good bit of Doom 3 mods on Desura that work with Steam.

Anyone could mod their game, you just have to follow the instructions.

The best well-known mods.

1- Sikkmod v1.2
2- wulfen 2.0+monoxead
3- 6th Venom's Doom 3 HQ Mainmenu (Optional).

You can find them on Moddb just google them, dont forget to read their readme files.

Also your hardware must be powerful otherwise it will lag like hell.

I strongly suggest CED's Assets Pack. It's a gameplay mod injecting into the game a lot of things:

-ironsight for every weapons
-lots of new animation, including the running animation
-lootable enemy corpses
-new hitbox system
-new damage scaling
-new accuracy modification
-new sound effects
and more

Be aware that the difficulty level will skyrocket even on marine difficulty and will turn Doom 3 in a real survival fps.
