Civilization won't 5 with a half decent machine

Civ 5 won't play for more over 10 minutes. I launch civ from both DirectX9 or DirectX11 and 10 minutes later, it seems like my machine explodes and then the machine just shuts down. I have never had issues with other more recent games.
