I'm guessing that the sales were not good at all or they wouldn't have done this. They probably only have a certain amount of time to make much profit on things like this.

So the marketing guys did the math and made the decision.

Yep, i got similar situation. It is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrible. And what is the most stupid thing, that we got nothing for pre-order. I am very disappointed. :spycon:

Yup. This is actually ridiculous.

While I'm normally pretty easy going about this stuff, like a month or two, that's fine.

BUT TWO DAYS? I want my $20 back for the two copies I bought.

While I do sympathize with the people who pre-ordered the expansion, you shouldn't pre-order things if you're not okay with the fact that eventually they're going to be cheaper than what you paid. It's a risk you take when buying things early, and a good reason to not do so. Pre-order discounts are nice, but in the end it's always going to be cheaper to wait for a sale. In this case the sale happened to be only days after release, and so it's understandable that people are going to be upset by it. Still, if the difference in price is that big of an issue for someone, that person probably shouldn't have pre-ordered to begin with.

I've got no problem if they drop the price a month later, but 3 in only days?

Well? Don't pre order, it's as simple as that.
I waited for the first reviews, saw that the thing was actually good and what do you know? -33%.
It's always best to wait, especially if it's only -10%.
StellaNutella Jul 12, 2013 @ 2:34am
Okey guys, they did it not because of "that the sales were not good at all", because it was on the second place in top sellers. And we know, that when the winter comes, it would be a 75-85% off :\

I understand that, but I don't expect it will be discounted this fast. Usually new releases aren't discounted for like two or four months after release. With this case it feels like a rip off to pre-orderers.

For me few EUR not a problem, i can afford myslef this, i am upset by the fact that discount happened same day as release. I know about discounts, and usually if i know i am ok with waiting, i am waiting !!! 1-3 months for discount, buying it and playing..... BUT same day??? thats ridiculous!!!!

Did this as well.

Except saw that it was good, love Civ 5, so bought. Oh look, no way to forsee it being on sale this early.

I do think that it was kind of crappy of them to give a pre-order discount of 10% if they knew they were going to go 33% off so soon. There's no reason they couldn't have simply made the pre-order discount better; I'm not an expert on these things but I imagine that they would have profited more from having a 33% pre-order discount than a 10% one. In any case I wouldn't be surprised if this does have a negative impact on future pre-order sales for them, at least for whatever their next release is.

Me too, it is still about £1 less than GMG but a pound is not that bad. But it is still a punk move by Valve.
