@ Starforth The Burgundy Silk Rug: A friend of mine said he didnt have a problem, so it isn't everybody, and the problem differs. I have read about many others, and their problem is when they load a game, start a new game and so on. I never get that far, so I dn't know if it is the same problem. I was just wondering whether it is a CD key issue, and whether my account has been hacked.
Also, try disabling the intro video and see if that makes a difference.
I disabled the intro video, when I started the game the first time. Come to think of it, the game crashed during that gameplay, but I had no problem starting it again and load the latest saved game. Now, I crashes before I get the chance to change any options.
Having said that, Windows 7 updated earlier and the update had something to do with platform settings, i.e. Direct3D. I wonder if that broke the game? Can anyone comment on the crashes and Windows 7/8/xp etc?

Go to C:\Users\Whateverusernameyouhave\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Saves\single and delete all of the save files you see. Als you might want to delete any of the other save files from the other parent directory. Game loaded and all is well. OFC< if you have a game saved you want to play, your SOL. Since I wanted to start from scratch anyways, it wasn't an issue for me.
