Game will not load at all?
Just bought the game yesterday and have not been able to even play it.

I click Play and it brings me to a screen to choose DirectX 9 or 10, 11. I have tried clicking both options, but when I do the screen goes away and nothing happens. No other game on Steam that I have does this...

I have checked the integrity of the files and restarted computer/steam. I just don't know what to do. I would really love to play this game. Thanks in advance.

I'm in the same boat though mine was working fine for years now so I'm not sure what is going on I have been trouble shooting on and off over the course of the past month, searching the web but there hasn't been a solution that worked for me. I'm running a GTX 770 the game has never had problems until this past month so I'm wondering if its a NVIDIA thing that hasn't been addressed yet. Same boat though it sucks DX9 WAS working up until about a week ago, and now its the same as the DX11 version crash on launch. Some people have had success deleting the opening .MOV files from the game directory it didnt work for me but give it a shot! hope you have better luck then me, maybe we will get lucky and someone will post a solution.

Did you try reinstalling the game ?
Bomber Mar 25, 2015 @ 7:16am
FIXED! (for me that is) Here is what I found. I had the same exact problem. The problem was in my DLC content. So in your installation you can enable and disable your DLC content. I disabled all of them at first with no problems. Then I went back and re-enabled them one by one. I found that I had two Scambled Maps DLC installed. I disabled both it worked fine. So start there and see what happens. I have also removed all mods just to be sure. When I have had this problem in the past it was a MOD or a DLC. So I have created something like a safe mode. Backup your save folders, move them to another location so they are not loaded on the re-install,uninstall everything for Civ V, re-boot the computer and then re-install the game with NO DLC's instqalled. Also be sure you are running with ZERO mods. After the reinstall confirm your game cache with steam. (look that one up in support) Then run the game at direct x 9 at first and then with direct x 10/11. Add the DLC's back one at a time after that and see. Add the mods very very selectivly.

Bomber is absolutely right the DLC is what is causing my problems I disabled all of it and the game will now run. Thanks Bomber I should have thought of that! I wasn't running any MODs just the official dlc and that seems to be what is causing my issues.

**EDIT**

Spoke too soon the game launched dlc free on dx9, switched to the dx11 version it crashes again, and now so does the dx9.

They probably sabotaged us so we will all waste our money on that flop beyond earth D:

Out of curiosity are all you guys having problems on NVIDIA gpus or are there any AMD users in this boat?
Eichhorst Mar 25, 2015 @ 5:07pm
i have AMD

Thanks Eichhorst that rules out whether it was a nvidia driver update that caused it so scratch that off the list

Here is a major odd thing having to do with this situation with Civ 5. I wouldnt have caught this but I was doing some gaming with my little brother and we wanted to play border lands 2, upon launching the game it crashes the same way civ 5 crashes. This made me suspicious being both games are 2Kgames so I launched a third 2K game Xcom and low and behold Xcom will not launch either. If anyone has borderlands2 or xcom or any other 2K title are you experecing similiar issues. Thank you this is so friggen weird.

**FIXED**

So after completely re-installing all my GPU drivers, updating my mobo bios, deleting steam, deleting the games and re-installing I have found the culprit to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Razer.... I noticed in the task manager back doored into the installation of Razer Synapse the software that powers razer hardware mouses keyboards etc... there was a ton of other razer branded programs I went down the line ending them one by one and I launched Civ 5 and to my astonishment it worked, I then tried Borderlands 2 this also now worked just fine, as does X-com... so its Razers software causing the issue for me I hope this helps you guys.
