why does it say a slur for gay people?

Using my xbox 360 controller and the game seems to not pick up my controller whether I use the steam controller configuration or not. Any help please?

Trying to do online co op with my friend, he can play the game with controller fine in single player but when we co op the only things that work are the pause button (it'll display controller prompts and all that but won't detect any other button presses). We've tried the controller defaults and steam input settings in properties but neither change this and even tried with me not plugging a controller in and either of us "hosting" but the second we co op I can play normally and he can't. If it's any help ...
