Skyrim Not Working!

On Christmas i got The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim game and it hasn't been working since I got the game. For example right now my game needs an update but when i try and update it, it says, "disk read error." Has anyone else been having this problem and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it fixed? And if so can you help with getting it working again.
