Skyrim Not Working!

On Christmas i got The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim game and it hasn't been working since I got the game. For example right now my game needs an update but when i try and update it, it says, "disk read error." Has anyone else been having this problem and gotten it fixed? And if so can you help with getting it working again.
