i recomend getting NMM. you probably will eventually want to use mods, so you might as well get a jump on learning how it all works.
Then you need to go to the Data Files section of the Skyrim launcher and check that the patches are activated (tick box next to them should be ticked) and in the correct order (which I believe is skyrim, update, unofficial skyrim patch, dawnguard, unofficial dawnguard patch, hearthfires, unofficial hearthfires patch, dragonborn, unofficial dragonborn patch, but I'm sure someone will correct me if that's wrong) - if they're not, you can move them by selecting the one you want to move and using the arrow buttons next to (or it might be below) the list. You can also do this in NMM if you have it.
