I would say there is still a good enough community sticking around for you to find more then enough games. Yet the best way to play the game is to get some friends together and take on some of the higher-end challenges.

The noone play anymore thing is flat out wrong. Most of the time there is at least a screenful of games going on ranked (i filter to see only hard-insane-NM).

But you might have problems seeing a lot of them, because so few remember to set their "to enter" level low enough, which has to be done at least every time you host.
Im aware of the issue and still forget it frequently, many have probably completely forgotten about it.
It gets pretty evident if you have or make a lowlevel character, switch to it and then browse the list of games - *then* it can look very desolate.
Jump back to your 80+ and it looks very different.

There's still a lot of people playing on the lower difficulties. If I set the join requirement to lvl 0, even a monster fest which allows 8 players will usually fill up in 30 seconds.
