Framerate issue + Reward
During some levels such as Glitterhelm on Insane, during the build phase (If there are massive amounts of turrets. On rare occasion, there won't even be many turrets, and my framerate still falls.) and especially on the combat phases, my framerate plummets. My PC specs are as follows.

AMD FX 8350
XFX HD 7850
8GB Ram
Windows 8 64 Bit

For reference, my framerate SHOULD be a solid 60 at all times, However, it drops to 30-40, which is an incredibly annoying variation in frames.

I have multiple hardware monitoring programs, the game never uses more then 25% of any core, and my GPU never goes above 40% load. Is this to be expected, or is there something wrong?

Note: If you can fix this problem, I will gift you a copy of Frozen Synapse ($25 value).

NOTE: was also getting lots of lag on Magus Quarters. Also, some maps seem to have a framerate cap. Or at least, some servers do. This cap has been 35FPS (Never more, never less) and 29FPS. (Again, never more, never less.)

ANY AND ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. If you can solve this problem, I have a $25 game I can gift you as a reward.

NOTE 2: It seems most maps lag incredibly bad now. Not just a few. This was not the case a couple of days ago. Maybe some of the DLC I got is screwy?

NOTE 3: Lowering the Field of View seems to ease the lag quite a bit, but it's incredibly difficult to play like that. Why would this affect my framerate at all? My graphics card is still not under full load. In fact, it's not even half load. Same with my processor.

I had a HP laptop with good enough guts in it (i thought) and it shouldnt have lagged - but it did. Bought a new Samsung ; still lagged - traded it in on a better one with a higher level video car - no lag on any map so far - only when I join in other peoples games. So upgrade your video card on PC - buy new laptop with a good good good video card - especially on laptops and notebooks they seem to put in crappy cards. Probably doesnt help you but it seems to be one reason for lagging. Now if you can tell me why Steam seems to cut out every couple of hours and how to stop that; I'd be happier. Found out one thing - if router isnt good enough quality - when someone else in the house starts up their computer - it would drain router enough to make any computer furthest away from the router loose connection for a couple seconds.
My video card can run battlefield 3 perfectly.

if your using apprentice towers they will cause lag the higher their rate of fire the more the lag they will cause

I've also noticed that Series EV beams seem to cause a lot of lag. Should I expect any updates to fix any of this?
Anybody?
There are some ini tweaks that could help you. Poke around in there, and I assure you, if you do it right, you will find some kewl stuff. No game gifting necessary, I like helping. :P

Unfortunately, some things will nearly always cause problems, no matter how good your PC is (I have a decent gaming PC, but some instances the game 'lags', which is just how it is... sometimes you just gotta point the finger at the software) and these things are EV's beams, the portal gun, and yes, the magic missile towers. I've not tested each and every possible thing in the ini files, but I'm confident that there are a few things that can alleviate a few problems; I have already helped one or two things, and increased the quality of other aspects, such as AA. If you want more guidance in that area, just Google it, and you'll likely come across a guide, just as I did. You could also try the control panel for whatever GPU you're using, as there are a few options in there that might help you. I've not tried it yet, but I can't help but to think that using WIndows XP compatibility mode may help, if you're using Windows, mainly relating to the processor, as it could be that the game simply doesn't make proper use of the CPU, which, from what I've seen and read, could very well be the case. Check out those ini files, though. I wouldn't get your hopes up for a magical instafix, but you might at least be able to lessen the severity of the sluggish performance.

Good luck.

Yeah, I think the game just stutters in some moments or locations for no apparent reason (software side). Your rig should play it maxed without any problems. Maybe try turning off vsync if it's on? Have you tried disabling the multi threaded renderer? That all can be switched in the game options when starting the game. I wish you good luck. =)
And btw, sorry for double posting, the FX processors run some games too fast, some too slow and can sometimes have lags and stuttering on some occasions like you do. I wouldn't mess around too much with the hardware, but try opening some other game in the background while playing dungeon defenders so the processor and gpu take some load. Maybe then you'll get the maximum potential of your rig in dungeon defenders.
If the above mention is true, and you are experienced with computer hardware and their workings, including that of the BIOS, then consider maybe disabling the Turbo feature, including any features that actively change the CPU voltage to match power usage*, and then overclock the CPU, but not too high. Assuming you know what you're doing, you may find that if the above is the case, then it might help it, you know, as a diagnostic. I think the Turbo feature could very well be the reason for variable issues in games, and the reason I think so, is because I always have mine disabled, and mine properly overclocked, which has worked just fine for many a month. BTW, do NOT try any of that if you know nothing about the BIOS, hardware, or overclocking, as improper configuration can do some serious damage; I cannot stress this enough.

* This is because you do NOT want the voltage going too high, especially on an OC, which can and usually does happen with such a feature enabled, which can cause damage, crashes, data loss, etc.

Yeah, I'm not familiar with CPU overclocking. Only GPU.
