Dungeon Defenders

New to dungeon defenders? What players want you to know
1. Don't take any loot unless you can use it for that character and for your level
As soon as the next wave or map begins, all loot on the ground will be automatically sold and the cost will be split for each person.

2. Use push-to-talk
The mics pick up background noises very easily. It's annoying if it's left open and for some odd reason people with open mics are often yelling in a language I don't understand and to someone they're having a conversation with outside of the game.

3. Don't sell other peoples' towers
Sometimes it's necessary if they have a million gas traps in bad places. If there's a well placed tower, leave it alone. You all get experience. It's not a race of who can get the most kills. Also don't plant a million towers. Create some balance for each crystal and path that needs to be protected

4. Know your choke points
Take Magus Quarters for example. There are many doors the enemies come from, but they all end up coming up 3 stairs. Don't place towers at the bottom of those steps when you can put them at the top and cover 2 doorways that lead up to one path.

5. Share the chests
Nobody likes a mana ♥♥♥♥♥. Especially if you're a barbarian or someone is carrying you. Let other people do there thing. Make an agreement if you want and pick sides you want to cover.

6. Don't plant towers at the doorways
This connects with number 4. There's a purple ring in the doorways. Until the enemies leave that purple circle, they will remain invincible. So if you put harpoon right at the ring, it won't do any damage and it will be destroyed.

7. Stop kicking -_-
If you host a game for your friends, make a private match. If someone is too low, set your minimum join level.

8. Don't get carried. Learn how to play.
If you let a high level complete levels for you, you won't be prepared for the higher level areas. It's not entirely about how much damage you or your traps do, it's also how you place them and where. If you're going to let yourself be carried, at least pay attention to their strategy and learn from it so you are prepared when your teammates have expectations.

9. It's a team effort, not a competition
repair your teammates traps and towers and upgrade them. you don't have to just focus on your own stuff. it's about completing the level and every repair and upgrade counts.

if anyone is new and want some tips or just want to play at legitimate levels, feel free to add me.
this is a great list and I hope all new and experienced players see this. Thanks!
Just like sharing chests and not selling other peoples towers,

Upgrade towers even if they're not yours. It's a team effort and not all classes have stuff to deal with all attacker types.
i'll add that
Very imformative, I had no idea about items being sold and mana split - I thought everyone was just wasting heaps of stuff. Live and learn (sorry everyone for taking stuff - thought you didn't want it!).
10. Before joining a game, check and see what options the host has already set.

if you agree, try to keep this bumped once in awhile so new players can view it. if not, let it die XD
i agree with most of it with the exception being number 8.
if you get to play with high levels(or "Carry"),you can learn building layouts
which can really help in the future playtroughs(like how some combination of towers works).
espescially in nightmare where you have to take note of spider spawn points
(as well as angles of the de-spawning djinns).
this was really a keypart of my beginning experience,so thats why it bothers me..

*sigh* number 1 is so common. every game it happens, they get kicked and end up losing hundreds of thousands of mana they could've had for a small gain they thought they had.
Great list, but you should add a couple things:
10) Do NOT stand by the forge, or anywhere near it, when your builder is building. There is nothing more irritating than wasting precious time for nightmare builds waiting for you to drop the mana you shouldn't have picked up in the first place.

11)Don't pick up chest mana on the first build phase unless your builder specifically asks you to. You may think you're helping them out, but you can really mess up a person's build process by depriving them of mana they would have used in between chests.

Also, as Tahun pointed out, being carried in high level content is not bad. I've been carrying several buddies through some nightmare stuff to show them some higher level play and they have been learning a lot. I also occassionaly give them "quizzes" on why my defenses are setup the way they are, to facilitate learning.

Presumably this is aimed at players that focus more on the mobile dps than those that can place towers or groups who organise themselves beforehand. Most groups I've joined have been able to work together enough to ask if there's spare mana or to suggest person x puts tower y a certain place or angle.

I was in a quickmatch the other night with some 20's and a level 80 odd arrived and proceeded to tear apart what we'd done without giving a reason other than our setup sucked, followed by them running about shaking their epeen for the next wave. Thankfully not a typical event as this kind of thing can easily kill a game thats played for fun.

Some people learn by watching or being told while others learn by doing. Part of the reason modern education fails a lot of people.

Either way not backing up the pathetic excuse doesnt help anyone get out of their supposed unsucky ways. Just makes the higher level come across as an arrogant know it all.

I don't mind the theory of a high level joining the lowbies for some fun but I'm not a big fan of them not letting the rest of the group actually do something. If I've boosted folk in mmo's I tend to take a backseat and pile in if the need arises, so I kind of like that system if the tables are turned.
Yeah, that's mostly aimed at pugs and such, who should be mostly dpsing since you only need 1 builder most of the time. The maps that need more shouldnt be played in an unorganized pug since it tends to lead to frustration.

Honestly, that guy was probably there just for e-peen stroking. When I join a low level game, I use one of my low levels or make a new character if I have none in the matching range. I also only offer advice on placement after something fails or if they ask for help. Total ♥♥♥♥ move on that guy's part, and it's unfortunately typical in a lot of people in this game. What's the point of playing the game if somebody else is going to make your efforts go to waste?

I also encourage people to always try things out. Don't know if a defense set up will hold? Try it anyways. Honestly, who cares if you lose? That's part of the learning process. It's not like there's only one way to beat each level...

somethings can slide like 3 blockades in a triangle form when only 1-2 are needed. as long as it doesn't suck up the units and make other paths vulnerable, people will eventually catch on
