Alright, so I'm currently trying to play split screen with a few friends, as we all enjoy working together in local SS.

However when I tried to hook it up today, it seems to have linked all of the heroes to one account. They all share one mana pool, and all share items. Further testing showed that when selecting a controller, they all show my name, with no option to select an alternate player/account.

How can I properly play multiplayer split-screen?

After some more testing, it appears that this is because i cannot "sign-in" with the xbox controller, so it defaults to my account, so how do I switch / create accounts?

It's also worth mentioning that I'm actually using a Dualshock 4 (PS4) controller, wired via USB, and with the DS4Tool drivers to emulate an xbox controller.

It appears that if several file need to be re-validated every time I launch the game, is this normal?

I've also talked with others who have the game, but not through steam, and they don't seem to have this issue. Is this a steam related issue, or just my specific install?

unlike the console version of Dungeon defenders, the PC version only allows you to use toons from the currently logged in steam account. and since steam does not allow multiple loggins you are pretty much stuck with just your own toons for your friends to choose from

Alright, if I were to use the non-steam vesrion, would we all still have to purchase the game, or would we be able to use just one install then?

the non steam version would face the same limitation, as its the exact same thing minus access to ranked which requires steam. you would still be limited to the same offline character roster

So even with a non-steam version, we can't all play together?
Then whats the point of split-screen?!

you can play together, you just cant use the characters from the individual accounts. They have to use your characters from your account. when you are at the character select screen you just have them hit the start button on their gamepads to join
