Looks like BattleZone 2
Does anyone remember that game? from way back in 99' One of the best action strategy games I ever played. Anyone playing this and also played BZ2 back in the day care to make a comparisson?

I still have the CDs for that. Great game. It was of course, a bit of a clone/update of the original Carrier Command.
Carrier Command: Gaea Mission's "Classic" Strategy Game Mode is pretty close to the original from '88, which I played to bits on the Amiga. The remake has a campaign "added on" that turns out to actually be a fairly gripping and long (if slightly buggy) struggle against a convincing, powerful and competent adversary. Unfortunately, the FPS sections look surprisingly dated and, at times, involuntarily comical. Still, good fun.

The game itself has some issues, mainly pathfinding, and some mild stability issues and a few script glitches. Still very playable, though, and sucks you in.

I also played both BattleZone remakes (the original BattleZone is from the early 80s), and this doesn't compare. The controls are much more immediate and the environments are very convincing. You have a huge strategic metagame added to a tactical core game play that has a lot of grand moments - if you like perfecting your invasion strategies and logistics, because you're going to invade a LOT of islands in this game.

Fortunately, Gaea Mission has more variety in island fights compared to the old Carrier Command classic. Let's just say coordinating a strike with 8 combat units and piloting one yourself in a snowstorm with the enemy while trying hard to take out the signal scrambling facility that causes your screen to show nothing but static is one of the more intense experiences I had lately in a single player game.
It kinda does - it even has the wonky AI pathfinding bits!

Hmm, might have to dig up my disks and see if I can still snipe scout pilots out of their ride. Heh, good ol' days..
Not really comparable, IMHO. I played both BZ1 and BZ2 (but not the BZ expansion featuring Chinese forces). BZ is more about placing units and defenses to carve out a space for your base and take out the enemy forces and accumulate enough units to overwhelm the enemy. In CCGM your base is your carrier so you're never worried about that. You're basically taking over the island one section at a time. The resource management is minimal here. It's almost all tactics and command. Resource is all in the "meta-game".

+1
I was looking for games like BZ2, and came across this, played the demo, it looks good enough to pick it up.
Yeahh. Battlezone2. Best action strategy game ever. I liked the look and feel and I liked the story about that crazy Cpt. Burns and those scion-guys. Anyone knows where to get a copy these days because I lost the CD when I moved flats.
Your best bet would probably be to have a look at ebay or amazon if you are looking to buy a copy - it isn't available on GoG, or any other DD store I know of.

I loved Battlezone 1 and 2 and played them for many years. I was sad that they didn't make any further sequels. Battlezone 2 is still the best game in this specific genre if you ask me. The feeling of building up bases, protect your resource geysers with turrets, assembling your troops, and go for raids or attacks was just uniquelly awesome. Also the whole atmosphere on these far away planets which looked quite differently. Carrier command doesn't give you as nearly as much freedom as Battlezone 2 but if you like this genre it's still fun. The fights are more challenging, it's cool to have a "mothership" and the agility of the units you steer changes according to how you equip them. It's not nearly as good as BZ2 and the pathfinding of the walruses are bad but I had still good fun with it for 42 hours.
It's like first person tower defense... before Tower defense became cool again in recent years.
Recently found "Void Destroyer" story mission based homeworld-ish combat sim / RTS.
It is in EA right now but the DEV is involved daily for comments and questions.
take a look if you like these type of games, it will not disapoint.
Carrier command most likely "Hostile waters" game, but battlezone
Battlezone 2, what an awesome game..

Seems like games like this and Dragon Commander keep missing the mark with strategy/base building games where you play as one of the units. I always loved running over the other team's pilots.

The first battlezone and the expansion was great, bz2 was awesome too, but lacked in some areas.

Also if anyone has played Operation Flashpoint there is a game mode called CTI which brings back so many memories.

Battlezone 2 is unbeatable. Its a shame no game software house doesnt see this. We used to make battles between friends all the night , till morning. That game came in a bundle with a graphics card.Everybody copied the cd, than, after playing so many hours, i decided to buy BZ1 and BZ2 from amazon, i feel so much better after doing it.
This game made me feel like real deep living a space adventure and fighting for hours and hours.
I hope someone remembers to compile a game like this with the actual graphics technology, cause it will be a tremendous success.
