Take On Helicopters

Take On Helicopters

Do we know which settings are the most graphically demanding?
The Objects setting seems to be a killer, whereas that HDR setting seems to have a pretty big impact visually for very little cost.

What are your experiences with the settings?

Which settings give the most bang for the buck in your opinion? (BTW, absolutely loving this game. Works great with Arma 2.)

I think it might depend on what hardware you have. What works best on my end might not be best for you. For instance, I was able to use highest textures but found that shadows cost me a lot of frame rate so I turned off shadows. I use high object detail, noticed a slight slow down but I really think what causes the slow downs is clouds and view distances. Tons of trees have to be rendered and if you can see a LONNGG way, then that's gonna take some processing.

Trial and error seems to be the best solution.

I set everything on High except the view distance. That's a killer for me, it requires more than 1GB of video memory. You can check out my vid on youtube, if you will.

Well this would be usefull if we knew what your pc specs were, to use as a reference.

Nice vid by the way :)

Oh yeah, sorry about that.

Rig Specs:
Core i7 3770K - 16GB 1600Mhz - """"HD 6870 -1GB"""" - 2TB 7200RPM -
As you can see, my video card isn't the best out there. I took a look at the settings here, and it's not everything on high...sorry about that as well. In fact, there're some effects that are frame killers and aren't even that great to keep it on. I'll make a video showing exactly my video settings on the game. Watching some vids on youtube, I noticed a lot of people setting it wrong, to say at least.

@RAFAEL, No need to be sorry mate, when i had thought about it i just looked
at your profile, and there they were your specs.

I really should have checked before writing my comment, but never mind.

I took your advice and set TOH up the same as you, and it runs perfectly smooth.
I have a Asus Direct CUII GTX670 2GB, so i might have ago at turning it up some
more, but for now it runs great...so thanks again for your advice :)

No problem, dude. Well, it's a great video card you have there. Way to go.

Those ARMA engine games are usually more CPU bound than GPU bound.
It also seems to be bad multithreading optimization, because it is not even maxing out the CPU power thats there. So faster cores benefit you more than more cores, in this case.

So which setting you can turn on depends on where it's bottleneck is.
Texture size mostly need GFX-Memory, for example.

I've been testing around with this quite a lot. On my computer i'ts basically the same as in all games that give very large Lines of Sight (Draw) e.g. Crysis & Battlefield. The only thing you need to balance is how large do you want you LoD?

For Take On Helicopters if I just put my LoD on 5000 or less I can max everything out. If you want higher LoD you just need to lower the graphic settings. You can actually count the frame drop per in-game meters on the LoD scale.

P.S.: For those who might have missed it; there's a Benchmark in the Challenges menu.

@RAFAEL Nice flying, veteran mode?
